We're covering the Civil War in my history class so we watched 'Glory' today. Excellent flick and from what my teacher says historically accurate. 3.75/5

I loved that movie, we watched it in 7th grade.

Mostly.  Like all Hollywood depictions, there are some liberties and omissions, but the majority (not individuals other than Robert Gould Shaw, but the basic events) of the film is based on fact.

One glaring omission:  The film emphasizes that most of the blacks in the regiment are escaped slaves. Actually, the majority of the roll were freemen born in the North.

Here's Wikipedia's article on the 54th Massachusetts (the unit featured in Glory)

Here's information from the Lincoln Institute, associated with the Lehrman Institute.

Platoon was OnDemand HD and I had two hours to kill so I finally watched it, good flick, didn't see what seperated it from any other war movie though. 3.75/5

Agreed, I was expecting a lot more. Sheen was okay in that role, didn't think he was great.

The whole movie is overrated. Not even close to a top of the line war movie.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

i wont watch fmj for one second after leonard kills himself...but up to that point its incredible...i could be wrong but i think this is pretty much everyones feelings on the movie

the second half of fmj and platoon are on the same level...i dont think either are good at all...the difference is that there is a large segment of people that like platoon...basically what im saying is that i dont think fmj is overrated at all
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

well, in one respect, it is overrated because people say it's a great movie, when really its a great half a movie

The two can't even be compared.

As long as we're comparing "American Beauty" and "Friday," I don't see why not.
