rotten tomatos can be unbelievably misleading...because they give just as much weight to a review by some illiterate hack on joblo's movie emporium website as they do to variety the hollywood reporter rolling stone or the ny times...now maybe that illiterate hack has the exact same tastes as me or you and then thats fine to go by him...but the rotten tomatos overall grade is pretty much worthless...i have like 6-7 go to print outlets for my reviews and while they didnt kill it all said it was middling unorginal and/or not believable....i believe them as they usually are on point...thats why i said i was suprised you liked it...for all i know there could be a hundred blogs out there that loved it

I get what you're saying but in this case it got good reviews by the legit outlets if you look there.

I had some problems with it (like I said, I liked it, didn't love it), but I actually think originality wasn't one of them.  The pace and way it unfolds is unlike most movies of that genre that I've seen.  It's worth seeing IMO I just wouldn't break my back to search it out.

Example - there's a sort by top critics option on RT which addresses your concerns, it basically filters so it's only things like the NY Times, Inquirer, Stone, Variety etc and that split has 30 good and 4 bad for this movie.

only people on there i follow are hornaday chang and scott and none of them particularly liked it...also nawshanty of ew didnt like it very much but i didnt see him on that list...oh i read travers too but dismissed him before i even read him on this as he would never not like a gandolfini ny based film..i was suprised he only gave it 3 stars

i also get a sense reading its reviews that people are scared to give gandolfinis last movie a bad review....even the reviews that didnt like it much i get the idea that they have to follow up anything that remotely comes across negative with something positiove...like the plot is silly but gandolfini is great in it...or its not very interesting but lehanes script is quality

ill redbox it one day im sure and while i dont think it will suck or anything i fully expect it to be a cookie cutter nyc underworld crime drima that ive seen before

Neighbors with Seth Rogen was a lot funnier than I thought it would be.  it has it's stupid moments of trying too hard but overall it's good.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Thought the same when I saw it. Not sure why but I loved the Robert De Niro party and terrible impressions. Dave Franco as Meet the Parents De Niro cracked me the farg up for no reason.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

gone girl - really weak for a fincher movie...really it was an anti fincher film....very cheesy at times with a terrible cast...would have been a solid entertaining pic if done by most other people but fincher can and should be much better

4/10

Except for Fight Club, that movie sucked.

I liked gone girl but I was less enthusiastic about Pike's performance than most have been.

i thought she was pretty good....thought tyler perry was the best one in the movie. yup. tyler perry. loved seeing the chick from the leftovers, too. she should be breaking out soon.

anyway, a solid film that was a bit too twisty and turny for its own good. affleck did affleck things. movie could have been improved with a better choice there. still, enjoyable and entertaining. 3/5
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
