The Hobbit was awful.

I saw it yesterday and liked it. Definitely about a half hour longer than it could have been, but I like that they're getting into the whole Necromancer sidestory that was only barely mentioned in the book. It will be cool to see the origins of Sauron's return and how the wizards and all them dealt with it and etc

It doesn't need to be 3 movies, 2 would be stretching it. The over use of CGI ruined the movie for me.

Well they added a lotttt of extra stuff from Tolkien's notes...I would say I only remember half of the first movie actually being in the book....so I can see how they're gonna do it, but yeah I agree this would have been better off if they did 2 movies. But there is a lot to cover between the mountains and mirkwood and then all the lonely mountain stuff with smaug and the armies.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

No there isn't, when you make a movie you cover the important parts of a book just like Jackson did with LOTR. Adding sequences and crap like giant rocks beating each other up is pointless and does nothing to move the story forward. The point of a movie is to visually tell a story, not to have video sequence events thrown in to make the story longer. Lucas did that with the prequels because he was dead set on having child Anakin [20% of the story], teenage Anakin [20% of the story], and adult Anakin [60% of the story]. The rest of the crap like the Gungans which were awful were just thrown in there for visual effect.

The Hobbit was one big giant CGI load of crap. The CGI looked horrible and every action sequence was over the top and ridiculous. LOTR used actual people with make up who did stunts which looked and felt a million times better than that 3 hours of shtein that I paid to sit through with the Hobbit.

I'm pretty sure the rock giants were mentioned in the book, though only in passing. It's been a while since I read it. But I agree that scenes like that were basically just cgi jerkoff scenes.

There's going to be a lot of stuff in the next two movies that weren't in the book. All that stuff with Gandalf going on "business up North" which wasn't expanded upon in the book is going to be in the movies.

I never got into the LOTR books but I read the Hobbit when I was younger and loved it. After the LOTR movies came out I read a bunch of the stuff online about the world and such. Dude went realllllly deep into the world he created.

General_Failure

The Hobbit was fun to read, in a children's book kind of way. Probably because it is. LotR was not, but it is the basis for pretty much all fantasy stuff that's been written since it came out, so I'll probably watch these Hobbit movies eventually.

Also, I'm told there's a scene in Django Unchained where DiCaprio is bleeding from his hand, which was not in the script and was just an accident during the scene that he just rolled with.

The man. The myth. The legend.

I don't hate it, but I've never watched any of it. Never had any interest at all.

i agree....from what i saw of lotr it isnt that the movie itself was the worst ever.....fantasy stuff doesnt interest me at all.....but it was more the length....i thought it was about to end and there was still two hours left....i was like peace

the fans are what really makes it hideous

i think i've already set a personal record for movies watched in a two day period.

killing them softly

meh. pretty generic bad guys against bad guys flick. gandolfini shows up and they waste about a half hour on a completely useless character. a few good kill scenes but mostly a snoozer.
