bunch of us in the office went to see Safe House this afternoon. not surprisingly a fun brainless action movie. story was 100% predictable and it was the standard 10,000 bullets a minute but no important characters get shot that much, oh and i can drive perfectly while someone is choking me from the back seat with a chain. oh and i fell in love with this male prisoner i just met 12 hours ago. but its still a good waste of 2 hours. better than being in the office at least.

this is accurate.

Thought Margin Call was pretty good.  You have to be in the mood for that type of movie, but if you are it's well done and well acted.
I love you Philip Morris was weird.  It's entertaining, but odd.  First hour >> 2nd hour.

it was a first thing in the morning poop and it felt really good

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

i had a stoner sunday and watched 3 movies.

man on a ledge - the title says it all. although he was on the ledge for 90% of the movie, there were a few minutes when he was not so these advertising guys are idiots. but honestly, wasn't horrible. not great but definitely watchable.

hanna - pretty badass. about some 15 year old girl assassin who kicks everyone's faces in. and cate blanchett likes to brush her teeth until they bleed. i enjoyed it.

chronicle - cool concept and special effects, although the whole first person steady cam filming technique is a little washed up. it started out pretty fun but for some reason i got bored towards the end. had i not watched two movies before this i'm sure i would have liked it more.

SD

Watched The Woman in Black. It had some scary moments and the ending was half decent, overall it was just okay.

a better life - absolutely superb story of an illegal immigrant and his 14 year old son in LA. demian bichir (spelling?) is farging unreal. story is fairly simple, writing nothing to go crazy about, but they dont really need it. the setting and mood do all the talking. the pain, anguish, suffering desperation on bichir's face is all you need to see.

im not gonna lie i teared up like a bitch on the father/son talk late in the movie. clooney and that frog from the silent move i really want to see should be playing second fiddle to this guy but hollywood dont work like that.

total must see. even if the story doesnt make you feel anything and dont resonate with you, for bichir alone, its worth it.

4.5/5

love and other drugs - by no means a great movie but much better than i thought it would be...pretty watchable...jake gyllenhall is a terrible actor...oh and anne hathaway gets naked a little bit

5/10

trust - david schimmer seems like a massive no talent douchebag to me but his directorial debut about a 14 year old girl who get lured and raped by an internet pedophile is pretty damn good....the actress who plays the young girl (btw she looks and sounds just like a young ssasha grey) is outstanding....she has a great future ahead of her...the movie has a couple afterschool special type moments but overall its a fairly hard hitting piece of work and has a great ending

6.5/10

the help - one million times more emotional than the overrated descendants...got to like a movie that makes you mad sad and happy all at the same time...it was a little too long and too convienant at times but a very good film overall

7/10
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

Don Ho

Saw the following while traveling last week:

Ides of March B+ - George Clooney is just a farging great actor.  Never was a fan of Ryan Gossling but he is actually pretty damn good.

In Time B - not bad.  Timberlake is coming along a as an actor.

Three Muskateers D - Why?  What a waste.
"Well where does Jack Lord live, or Don Ho?  That's got to be a nice neighborhood"  Jack Singer(Nicholas Cage) in Honeymoon in Vegas.

gosling might be the best actor on the planet right now...if not hes definitely on the short list

shocked gosling didn't get recognition for either Drive or Ides.

Munson

He'll always be the awkward unathletic dude from Remember the Titans and Noah from The Notebook

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

i havent seen ides yet but with the possible exception of bichir his performance in drive is better than any of the nominees this year

I just don't see it. I thought Drive was an interesting idea, but an awful movie, and Gosling's part was as bad as anything I've seen since the Star Wars prequels.

The man. The myth. The legend.

ides is an alright move, gosling can only do so much as it slowly becomes a cheap MOW after starting off as an intriguing political thriller

id go with bichir 1 and everyone else a distant second. not for one second when i was watching that movie did i think i was watching an actor play a character. dude BECAME him.
