i love it, frankly
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Rome

That lineup might not win 60 games.

If someone had told me this time last year they'd have gotten as much out of Byrd on the field as they did last year, PLUS got a halfway decent prospect for him this offseason, I'd have said, well... you know.

Yeah, what's the catch with this Lively fellow? It sounds like he actually has the potential to play okay baseball, which is strange because Rube traded for him. Does he have Ebola or something?

Don Ho

RAJ could bring in Kershaw, Trout, King Felix, Panda, Bumgarner, we'd still mock the move.  It's who we are.
"Well where does Jack Lord live, or Don Ho?  That's got to be a nice neighborhood"  Jack Singer(Nicholas Cage) in Honeymoon in Vegas.

Not only that but they'd suck and never been good again. Once you get the phillies stink on ya it's not coming off

MDS

they aren't far off from being in position to be decent in 2017

hang in there kiddies

You don't get to say this about any philly team ever until you believe in hinkiemagic

MDS

the phillies have a better chance, really

they have multiple players who COULD be good, plus hundreds of millions in salary space to sign free agents. the sixers' success hinges on a 7 foot injury prone african being other worldly. its much, much easier to be good in baseball, too.

that's why hes doing it....hes slowly going to create a character that is the biggest phillie homer ever since hes the only one out on the sixers

spend a few minutes in a search and you could find a few dozen posts by him predicting doomsday for the next decade
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

MDS

doomsday is a very real possibility....there's no guarantee the bevy of questionably talented minor leaguers the phillies have will be any good

but again, its much easier to compete in (any sport) than the nba. the sixers need joel hans embiid to be the 2nd coming of the dream. the phillies need 1 above average pitcher and 2-3 above average every day players. thats it.

Rome

The Phillies need a lot more than that.

MDS

im assuming they are going to keep hamels...you add 1-2 above average pitchers....the bottom of rotations are meaningless.
giles = bullpen
they somehow need 2-3 bats to pan out in some capacity. then take a look at 2017 and 2018 FA classes. they can make a trade....will myers, justin upton all were dealt this offseason. they'll have roughly 150 mil to spend.

its not THAT easy. the manager is still an idiot. but the the 10/11 phillies ruined everyone's thinking about what it takes to be good. you dont need an all star team. the giants and royals didnt have one. the orioles didnt either.

its not about the sixers....the phillies have zero chance to be good in 2017 and you yourself has said this an uncountable number of times

Yeah not sure where the optimism is coming from. By the time they're good again Hamels will be in his mid 30's. They have a couple of good prospects but no one who projects to be a superstar. Plus you're putting your faith in Amaro who's made which good moves exactly?

If I had to rank my optimism surrounding our sports teams it would be:

Eagles (not great but they made the playoffs last season and barely missed this season. A few more pieces to the puzzle and who knows)

Sixers

Phillies/Flyers

I would rank the Flyers a lot lower but hockey is a strange sport where so so teams make runs.

ice grillin you

I agree with that order.....but I feel strongly that the flyers are ahead of the phils because of this crop of young defenseman they have....it would kinda be like if the phils had three or four really promising pitchers in the lower to mid system

unless one of the four teams is currently stocked with good young players and is already a good team the eagle are almost always going to be #1 just because the nfl is so easy to get better in....shtein you can have big fluxuations year to year simply because the other teams in your division got better or worse even tho your team might be the same...say what you want about the birds this year compared to last but on a macro level dallas being better is why they arent in the playoffs
