Why in God's name would you leave the Pacific northwest for a job in Nebraska?  Honestly, it's 2014 and that switch might actually be a step down in prestige.

more importantly, why would you fire Bo Pelini if you're willing to hire Mike Riley almost instantly?

yeah but my point is, if you fire Pelini for the reasons you're saying (we're a big time program and can get an elite coach!) then why do you hire Riley immediately?  It seems like they weren't even aiming for an elite coach which makes Pelini's firing make even less sense. 

I could see them firing him and then trying to hire a bunch of big names for a few weeks, striking out, and settling on Riley because they had miscalculated the attractiveness of the job, but going to Riley immediately is so strange to me.

pellini didnt win enough for them...he just had to go. riley was simply a convenient, affordable hire.

they are going to keep cycling through coaches from here to eternity because nobody will ever win enough
