Arguing about Ben Revere and using sabremetrics...I didn't think this thread could get any worse. Bars been lowered boys.

I thought it was better than the Eagles thread where the argument was over whether anyone is happy with the Eagles winning 10 games every year without winning the Super Bowl.

Do you guys think he is worse than Dom (8 HR, 58 RBI)?

no hes better than brown...but that really doesnt mean much since brown is perhaps the worst everyday player in baseball

the phillies need a new outfield, starters, gm and manager.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

apples and oranges but all things considered id much rather see HOF in the phillies OF than revere
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

lol at war.....quadruple lol at owar but even if you don't think so

1 hr and 40 rbi in a good year plus watching his arm and angles in cf trumps all

the guy should not be starting in the major leagues on anything more than a last place team with no future and even then i question it

no lol at oMAR

It's splitting it between offense and defense.  My point was simple - if MDS is using war to show he sucks, might as well present the whole picture because what his WAR shows is he's a good, not great offensive player (this year) who is AWFUL on defense.

I'm not leading the Ben revere bandwagon.  I don't think he's good enough offensively to be a DH and he can't play the field.  But a 100 OPS+ with 43 SBs has use on a team.  No real arguing that.  Unfortunately I don't see him getting better on defense, and I don't think there's much more of a ceiling on offense.

Eagles_Legendz

Browns as bad defensively and exponentially worse hitting.  Barring some huge change he won't be in the league in 3 years.   This is all irrelevant though as the phillies will be lucky to win 70 games next year with or without either of them.

juan pierre wound up having a 13 year career, and he was terrible...revere can hang around. if you hit 310 and steal 50 bases somebody is going to give you a job playing baseball. it may not be a great job, or a starting job, but itll be something. old school meathead back of the baseball card geezers do have front office power.

No disagreement there, just seeing where you guys are at. HOF is a disaster.

I think Revere would be useless on most teams, but he has a place on *some* teams and right now the Phillies are one of those teams. I value the singles and SBs more than you do. The defense sucks, the power doesn't exist. Not sure exactly what to make of the walk situation since he could probably stand at the plate for an hour against most pitchers and not see four balls. But he gets on base enough and swipes bases enough to be worth something.

MDS

yea as a 4th outfielder....hes not a bad, all be it non traditional, pinch hitting option. he wont strike out, he wont hit into a DP, he can make an out and turn it into a hit. i dont mind him in that role.

i have no illusions about HOF developing into a major leaguer but whatever low % it may be he still has some hope...id rather see him trotted out there and hope he finds a genie in the bottle than see revere who is what he is and has zero chance to ever be anything else

I get it. From both an entertainment and a potential standpoint, you can make an argument for HOF over Revere. From a production standpoint, nah.

ice grillin you

yeah theres no debating who the better player is....but when you are as bad and hopeless as the phillies are you look big picture and revere is not in it where as HOF is (barely)

this is fair...but in reality i think both are gone by next season

Speaking of HOF...it bothers me how unnatural and uncomfortable he looks catching even the routine fly outs.
