The Wire transitioned story lines and characters better than any show in history. There's not even an honorable mention when it comes to that department.

I caught up on the Sopranos after watching the Wire. The biggest blemish on the show was the way they transitioned story lines. For instance, all the sudden Tony has another cousin (Tony played by Buscemi) whose been in jail for 10 years. He's a huge part of the story yet they go 4 seasons and never mention him. They open the season and Tony's watching the news and boom new major character is introduced. Now that I'm rewatching episodes on HBO I feel I unfairly criticized the show for this flaw because I watched it immediately after watching the Wire. I'm enjoying my second time through the Sopranos more than I did my first watching.

i was the same way....second time i saw it the things i didnt like the first time weren't nearly as bad...especially the later seasons....I always thought the show fell off a cliff after season 3....but after the second viewing its a great show all the way till the end with some really bad episodes mixed in during the later years

its no doubt the second best show of all time in my mind

talking about the different ways the wire used people so seamlessly.....what about little kenard as a background nobody to start....then a season later as an up an coming corner boy to omars murderer the next year

General_Failure

The Sopranos writing shtein the bed as soon as Nancy Marchand died, which is a shame since they did another five seasons after that.

The man. The myth. The legend.

MDS

she was awful in the 2nd season...she was dying on camera. poor lady.

really the show was never quite the same without her character.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

The first season of the Sopranos ranks as one of the greatest in tv history.   It really did start to slide after that, especially after they decided to split up Carmella & Tony.  There's simply no way back from that decision, IMO.  Also - I think after the initial wave of publicity and fame for the show, Chase decided to say farg you to the audience every chance he got.  It was like he was being deliberately contemptuous toward anyone who watched the show.   The ending was the ultimate middle finger but the worst was the Hoyda/talking fish bullshtein.  And the Johnny Cakes/Vito shtein was awful too.

yeah the fish thing was ridiculous....as was pretty much any dream sequence....especially when he was in the coma after he got shot

but i feel like people nitpick the shtein out of the show which is a sign of how good it was...because amongst the weak pts there were so many HOF episodes and moments all the way to the end

and I totally disagree with gf that the writing died with marchand....which I don't really get anyway since she didnt write....the writing was top notch till the end and the best part of the show....some of the story lines can be fairly criticized but not the writing and acting imo

I'm in the minority but I wasn't a fan of the first season. Actually blew through it on Netflix and had no interest in watching the second season. Gave it another try and started getting into it more.

MDS

how did you watch sopranos on netflix

It was either Netflix or Blockbuster, before streaming when they'd deliver disks.

Wouldn't surprise me if reactions are mixed on the TD finale, but I thought it was rock solid. The acting was off the charts, even by HBO standards.

SD

Thought it was great...really no complaints. I'm glad they didn't lame it up.

SD

And spaghetti monster and the Yellow King are different people I'm assuming...meaning the Yellow King is still out there.

finale was very well done but felt rushed to me....season should have been 12 eps
