Listening to WIP when he was here and it was apparent that many hated him. I used to get so enraged at some of the callers I wanted to drive into a bridge pillar

ice grillin you

you also have to factor in that hes off the charts popular with all the african american sports fans in the city...which puts him ahead of any phillie or flyer

the people who hate him REALLY hate him and are loud about it....so they seem to be a much bigger segment of people than really exists

i agree with matty....i dont get how anyone could hate him...everything sd said about him makes him so endearing...that doesn't mean he wasn't flawed both as a player and sometimes a person....but i think thats what makes him even more relatable to the average fan

people claim to hate programmed, PC responses to questions yet when AI gives honesty they don't like that either because they don't like his brand of honesty.

I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Rome

He makes grown men weep, after all.

You wanted to kill yourself because of WIP idiots?

I'll buy that but for different reasons.

MDS

over 1/3 of this country hates the president because hes black. and hes about as chalky as a brother can get.

how do you think those people...and others...are going to feel about a tatted-up wanna be gangster who doesnt speak or dress the way that they do?

philly is a colossally racist town as it is.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Rome

todd saw the wire once so he's definitely qualified to expound on what it's like to be allen iverson.

seriously, this place just gets more ludicrous by the hour.

MDS

ive actually seen the wire, in full, at least six times

WIP used to really annoy me. I listened pretty much 24x7 when I lived back home and the clown callers and some hosts pissed me off.

I loved AI from the time he donned a Sixer uniform. He definitely embodied the Philly spirit and toughness. When jerkoffs try to rip Philly for idolizing Rocky because of the fictional aspect I always tell them it's the attitude and mentality that we love. Allen had that mentality. When he was on the court he was going hard.

QB Eagles

If it doesn't affect their ability to perform at a high level on the field, court, or ice, I don't particularly care what athletes are like. All other things being equal, sure I'd like the players to be really good people who are fun to be around, but that's such a minor point. I don't know any of them in real life, so for all I know even the guys who seem like great guys in public are complete iceholes in person. A lot of people are two-faced like that, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Do I think AI would have played better if he took practice more seriously, associated with less sketchy friends, and had a more stable personal life? Not really. He gave all he could and more on the court for the Sixers. His effort is legendary, and asking more of him is insane. That's about as good as someone the size of a normal person can play basketball.

Race is obviously an issue but that's not the only one with AI. Some fans fool themselves into thinking of players as their friends, and a lot of them don't have friends who act like Allen Iverson. He's a raw guy, and his struggles were very much in the open. People gotta realize he's not supposed to be your friend, though. He a guy who shoots basketballs on TV. Relax and enjoy his heart and tremendous talent. He was one of a kind.

its not only race with iverson as in all the people who hate him are racist...altho that's a big part of it....but its also a cultural divide where they cant relate to him...and are prejudicial because of it.....allen was basically the basketball version of everything so many white phillie fans worship GRIT over...yet so many of the same people dont like and/or could never imagine a young flamboyant black street kid having the same work ethic

I don't get how people can hate Iverson.  He's probably my favorite Philly athlete in my lifetime and the sixers aren't my favorite Philly team.
