I'm more concerned that Dio thinks he played good.

I'm concerned as well. It's not like Dio to use poor grammar and this board is dragging him down. But he's right in that Kooper played well. After Foles took over Kooper overachieved in a system where Chip used him to his strengths and he even threw in a couple of highlight reel catches. Although he has probably hit his ceiling other than maybe getting better as a redzone target, I'm fine that they re-signed him if it is along with Maclin rather than instead of him (even if Mac is a 1yr deal).

General_Failure

As a starter, Maclin was good for at least 4 catches a game in a zesty 2012. As a starter, Cooper was good for almost 3 in a year where the offense was kind of amazing. Maclin was 22nd in catches among wide receivers in 2012, Cooper was 51st in 2013.

He's okay, but not terrible. It'll be nice to have him back if he isn't a starter, but that wouldn't make it a lock that they don't draft another receiver.

My point was, playing well does not mean the guy has taken his medicine, nor does it grant him another chance.  He's still a redneck, people just forgive him for it because he did well on the field.  Had he cratered, no one would be saying things like "he took his medicine."

I'd rather see the guy get his second chance elsewhere but I can't argue with his performance last year, or with the chemistry he seems to have with the starting quarterback.

i don't want him permanently punished for his mistake.  i just of the personal opinion that the incident with him is deeper seeded than him just being drunk at a concert and letting something slip and he's the type of person i would rather not be on the team i root for.

5 years, $25M for Cooper.  haven't seen guaranteed money yet.

i bet the guarantee is around 8-9 mil....nothing that would preclude them from taking a wr in the first round.....but combined with mack coming back it makes it highly unlikely that position is of an even medium priority level

the draft is deep as shtein at the position so they probably take one to develop over the next couple of years but pimp - kkk - mack is their top three

a factor in the wr position also has to be that they believe ertz is going to take a huge leap forward this season and basically be an extra wideout
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

Not a bad deal at all.  And honestly, the reason he had a good year is he has a QB who can actually throw the ball into a spot where cooper could make a play on it.  He's not fast, but Foles has the touch to drop it right where it needs to be 30-40 yards down the field, or up high where Cooper can use his size.  All in all, Resign Mac to a 1 year deal, see how he recovers.

Eagles paid him more than they needed to, both base and guaranteed. Part of this probably has to do with the sizable jump in the salary cap but I don't like that they are somewhat tied to him for at least 3 years regardless of his performance. I would have called in Banner to do this contract.

QB Eagles

I never thought receiver was a glaring position of need. They were 9th in the league in receiving yards, without Maclin. The overall offense was #2 behind the Broncos. And that was with Vick for some games.

If they don't repeat that success, I would expect it to be due to key injuries (or a regression by Foles) rather than anything related to the rest of these pieces. You can always get better at every position, but focusing on the defense is appropriate this offseason. Cooper was serviceable in the Kelly system.

Correctamundo!  It would have been nice to see how Foles worked with Maclin.

Damn straight son.

I don't know if it's high or low in terms of money but I have a feeling that when we see what the other FA WR's get this deal will be exceedingly reasonable.

Also - I don't see any reason why they still can't get a receiver high in the draft especially if they address the safety situation via free agency.

General_Failure

Looks like a one year deal to me unless he really improves or Maclin can't cut it.
