12 of the 15 states covered by the act are in the midst of passing voter suppression laws

if the roberts court has its way in ten years the only people allowed to vote will be corporations

comes down to if you cant win elections then prevent the opposition from voting

12 out of 15 isn't sufficient evidence, however.  Nope.

Oh, and Clarence Thomas is a disgrace.  If it weren't for the civil rights movement in the 50's and 60's he'd be a farging dishwasher instead of a SCJ.  He turned his back on millions of his own race with this vote.  Hell, I can see clowns like Alito & Scalia voting it down, but Thomas?  What an absolutely disgusting human being.

The point is you are not legally allow to single out states and areas if you also aren't covering it elsewhere.  The problem was under inclusion.

I have the same opinion of the ACA as I do the VRA.  Things I support for what they do but didn't think either was strictly legal as constructed.  VRA was in the 60s.  It either needed to be expanded or retracted (like I said, my preference was for the former).

For all the rhetoric put forth by the Tea Party imbeciles regarding taking their country back, I wonder if anyone on that side of the "crick" has thought about the consequences of millions of people having their most basic civil rights stripped from them one by one?   I seriously doubt the King method of passive resistance will work anymore.  Motherfargers have had it with being poor and abused by the wealthy and bought and paid for politicians in this country.  I'm honestly wondering how much longer people are going to wise up and start attacking those with more than they could ever hope to use, buy or spend instead of themselves.

Obama's "flat earth society" line from his speech at Georgetown today was good to hear.  He ought to have hit them sooner, but late is better than never.

Meanwhile, in Texas, they're trying to pass a bill to make it illegal to have an abortion after 20 weeks. Senator Wendy Davis is filibustering it. And livestreaming it.

She's not allowed even to lean on the podium.

Atta girl, thanks for at least trying.

No leaning, no piss break, no drinking anything, has to stay on topic, and can't stop for more than a couple seconds.

They've given her two violations already (one for going off topic and one for putting on a back brace).

With around fifteen minutes to go, the people watching it in person had enough and just started cheering to interrupt things, and it looks like they'll continue until midnight.

And they did. Then the Texas Senate had their vote afterwards, which is against their own rules.
