they are going to run the option without the run option

sounds tricky

Not really.  It's tricky to rock a rhyme.  It's especially tricky to rock a rhyme that's right on time.  Running the option without the option sounds fairly simple by comparison.

that might work against wyoming and new mexico state

its questionable whether the read option as is will work in the nfl....we will find out in a couple years as DC's adjust....a read option where the qb is no threat to run will never work in this league

You are missing the point - you can't run a read-option without a mobile QB, but the read-option is not an offensive system - it is a run play (or play action pass) within the offensive system. If you don't have a mobile QB - you don't run that play.

yeah and chippers read option offense requires the qb to be a run threat....thus foles is worthless in it

The OPTION offense he ran at Oregon, utilized the read-option a lot because Kelly wanted to run the ball, control the pace of the game, and wear out the defense. It's obvious he's going to have to adapt it given who is on the team, and if they go with Foles doesn't mean they can or won't run an option based offense - it will just be one without Foles running read plays.

then thats the offense he should install...but by keeping vick he is saying thats not the case

and i cant believe the eagles would hire a college only coach for his offensive philosphy and then have him run an offense that a monkey could run.....they are supposed to be getting a genius read option offensive coach that requires a qb that can actually move

if they arent getting that then why the farg was he hired

It could be worse.  I could have tried to find a way to tie Barbie Girl into this conversation instead.

I don't think keeping Vick really has any bearing on what system he implements. He's still completely discardable. Saying what Kelly did at Oregon was just the read option really detracts from the dude's accomplishments there. I'm not saying any of this will translate, but we've gotta see what he picks and chooses. OTAs can't get here soon enough.

this is what scares me

resigning vick should only happen for one reason and that is to let a qb who has the skill set to run chippers offense do it for a year as a way of ingraining it into the team/franchise so that even if vick isnt there the rest of the offense would have played in it for a season before they were to hopefully get their qb of the future to run it

however if what you or chipper is saying is that nick foles fits his offense then everyone should be nuked and the hiring of him looks even worse than we all initially thought

the ONLY reason to hire chipper and even this is a stretch was that he was going to have some sort of next level genius type read option based offense that would require at the least a very mobile qb if not a great running qb

now maybe foles gets traded next week but for now we can only go on chippers words (which admittedly have to taken with a grain of salt) from yesterday which were that foles and vick were on equal footing and would battle head to head for the starting qb position....to me that is ludicrous and shows you have absolutely no plan whatsoever

all i know is following the qb position is going to be nutso over the next six months....which is awesome because since the TO/kearse eagle offseasons have been zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

2011 offseason was exciting once the lockout ended, it's just that the team put on the field was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Michael Vick thinks he can run for 1,000 yards in Chip Kelly's offense

Posted by Michael David Smith on February 12, 2013, 11:22 AM EST

With his new contract in hand and his new coach implementing an offense he's excited about, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick believes he's going to have a big year in Philadelphia.

Vick said on Mike and Mike in the Morning that he expects "to be one of the elite quarterbacks in the league again" playing for Chip Kelly. And he referenced his final season with the Falcons, when he ran for an NFL quarterback record 1,039 yards, as something he believes he can match.

"In 2006 I ran for 1,000 yards — and it wasn't hard," Vick said. "I feel like I still can do that."

Although Vick and Kelly haven't spent much time going over Xs and Os, Vick said he likes what he has heard from Kelly so far.

"I could tell that he was innovative, and that's what it's all about in this league," Vick said. "You have to be able to change up from week to week and I think Chip will be able to do that. I think I can handle that."

The Eagles would love for Vick to be the same kind of runner this year that he was in 2006, but one concern is that in 2006, he ran the ball 123 times and was sacked 45 times. It will be hard for him to stay healthy if he takes that many hits, but Vick says he's not stressing about that.

"Once you start trying not to get hurt, that's when you get hurt," Vick said. "I think I have to go out, play lights-out football, and not worry about getting hurt."

A 1,000-yard rushing season is a long shot, but a healthy Vick for 16 games in Chip Kelly's offense would certainly be exciting.

I love how Vick doesn't say he can win the big game at Chipper at the helm, but run for 1,000 yards.

the offseason did nothing for me that year in the sense that it was like ok fine they signed a couple promising people....but it was still a wait till the season starts mentality...they also had vick and more than anything they still had andy

in 2004 they already had a sb level caliber team and they added massively to it....the bedwetter wasnt a failure yet and there was no andy fatigue yet...everyone knew they had a 100% legit shot at the superbowl that year...training camp was off the charts incredible...better than probably 75% of eagles games since then

nor does he mention that if healthy he could be the nfl's first member of the thousand thousand club....1000 rush yards - 1000 fumbles
