The 600 pound gorilla in the room is if Obama was white with the record he's established he'd be beating Romney by 10 points right now.  No one wants to address that in the MSM but it's absolute truth.   I don't blame Republicans, though.  They're a sorrowful bunch who are en masse stuck in the 1950s.  I blame weak ass Democrats and independents who bitch about Obama not being exactly what they wanted and refusing to do whatever is necessary to get him re-elected in a landslide.

I don't think any incumbent with an 8% unemployment rate and significant deficit would win by 10%.

They would if the country was mired in the worst recession in 70 years when he took office.

Why partisans can't explain their views

QuoteSuch attack ads work, in large part, because we don't understand them. Statements take advantage of a fact about human psychology called the "illusion of explanatory depth," an idea developed by the Yale psychologist Frank Keil and his students. We typically feel that we understand how complex systems work even when our true understanding is superficial. And it is not until we are asked to explain how such a system works — whether it's what's involved in a trade deal with China or how a toilet flushes — that we realize how little we actually know.

Yeah I don't agree with that -- I think the whole "he doesn't have a record to run on" is widely overblown, but it isn't like his economic policies have been impervious to criticism.  The thrust of his claim of success economically is a negative assertion campaign -- "things would be worse".  I agree that it very possibly could be worse with separate policies, but whenever you have to run with that at the base of your economic success claims, with unemployment and the deficit the way they still are, and the economy is the key issue, you aren't going to see a 10% victory.

You mean to tell me that politicians exploit voter ignorance?  No freaking way!

IMO Obama didn't go far enough in terms if the stimulus and slashing govt jobs at the state & local level has caused the unemployment numbers to remain as high as they are.

Regardless, no rational person can suggest we aren't better off today than we were when Obama took office.  That's what you run on and unlike Romney's rhetoric, it happens to be true.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds
