Been flipping between the Phils and the Bears/Skins replay on NFLN. Trying to get a look at RG3, but every time he drops back to pass he's getting nailed or running for his life. It's like watching the Eagles O-line trying to block only 1000x worse.

Bayless: White fans will root for white QB

ESPN analyst Skip Bayless might have outdone himself in the saying-stupid-things-that-could-get-him-in-trouble department.

When discussing the Washington taterskins' quarterback competition between No. 2 draft pick Robert Griffin III and fellow rookie Kirk Cousins on ESPN's First Take Monday morning, Bayless sounded off with this rant:

    "Some foolish taterskins fans-aafans, foolish, doesn't that go together, right?-aathey're gonna sit back and say, 'God, RGIII was struggling. He fumbled, he threw a couple of bad passes. Maybe Kirk Cousins is better right now. Maybe we should go with Kirk.' NO! I don't want to see that. I don't want to set up that dynamic."

    "I'm going to throw it out there. You also have the black/white dynamic and the majority of taterskins fans are white and it's just human nature if you're white to root for the white guy. It just happens in sports. Just like the black community will root for the black quarterback."

Um, racist comment alert.

Bayless was originally angry when the taterskins drafted Cousins in the fourth round and continued with his fury on Monday.

    "I'm for the black guy," he said. "I'm just saying I don't like the dynamic for RGIII. It could stunt his growth in the NFL."

With Griffin III, the taterskins' quarterback of the future, struggling in Washington's 33-31 preseason loss to the Chicago Bears on Saturday, Cousins stepped in and completed 18 of 23 passes to finish with 264 yards and three touchdowns. Griffin finished a mere 5 of 8 for 49 yards without a touchdown or interception in six series. Starters were out for both teams when Cousins played, though.

On Monday, Cousins denied there being any quarterback controversy brewing.

"I think that this is Robert's team," Cousins told reporters. "This is Robert's opportunity. The coaches have made that very clear. It's my job to do the best I can in my situation and in my opportunities. And that's what I'm trying to do."
