Someone mentioned this in the Phils thread but it's true - i would bet a good portion of the crowd down at the game don't even remember that Abreu played in Philly.

The booing of him tonight and the snide remarks online are dumb. He was one of the best Phillies of all time but people act like he's some scrub.

Quick! Someone make a non-clutch comment!!

No he wasn't. Would you rank him with Schmidt/Ashburn/Carlton? Nobody in their right mind would. I don't even dislike the guy, thought he was a decent player. His departure was necessary for the growth of the younger guys. They said it themselves in interviews they knew they had to step up once Bobby left. Here's what I don't get, what kind of fan reaction do you want for the guy? Do you want the crowd to give him a standing O? He was never a fan favorite, never had a huge play that he's remembered for, and the team didn't make the playoffs while he was here.

MDS

yea again you cant blame him for any of that

bobby is what he is and what he is/was was a very good player. the teams he was on werent all that great, and he himself is just a piece of the puzzle and not someone who is going to carry a team to october. if you want to fault him for that, go for it.

the problem was he was the best player on a team that always won 86 games so everyone just pointed the finger at him.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

SD

I don't even disagree with any of that but what do you want the crowd to do? He left 6 years ago. Do you think he deserves a standing O every time he comes back?

Rome

He deserves two pages of discussion on a random Eagles-related message board.

Done.

MOVE ON.

no of course not

but he got somewhere in between nothing (south jersey) to boos (WIP). that was wrong.
