The site is what it is, a conspiracy theorists dream page. The fact is, it was a legit video and an article that touched on the decay of both the big cities and the rural areas of America becoming more violent.

We know all about the rural areas. Just check the YouTube thread.

Rome

Cities & rural areas are becoming more violent because of economics.  Those that have have a shteinload and those that don't, well, they're feeling overwhelming anger and resentment because of it.   It's only going to get worse because rich people don't give a flying farg about the poor & working classes in this country.   Just look at any Romney or Santorum or Gingrich rally for proof of that.

Look, if I don't have enough money to feed my family and keep a roof over their heads I'm going to do whatever I have to to make sure they're taken care of.  If that means I have to smash some rich motherfarger's face in to get that money, that's what I'm going to do.  If the rich in this country think the law is going to protect them or the politicians they vote for are going to save their asses, they're dead wrong.

And you know what... the treatment that guy received in the video is horrifying.  It's awful beyond words.  But it's been happening to blacks and other minorities for 400 years, so don't be shocked when someone who's spent their entire life looking over their shoulder laughs at or ignores that sort of attack.  They're used to it and usually it's been the white oppressor who's been doing the beating.

Rome, I agree with so much of your post, but you cannot just throw the repubs under the bus when it comes to the elite in this country. The Dems and pubs are both equally guilty. The large cities have been controlled by the dems since probably the sixties, but they have not made the living situation of african americans any better under their watch. I'm not saying the right would do any better, but the left has failed the black community as a whole. Using the excuse that the treatment of blacks in this country for 400 years is not a valid excuse to have people treat another person the way that man was treated, its just not. Facts are that around 93% of blacks killed are killed by blacks. Sure there are cases of whites killing blacks and blacks killing whites for racist reasons, but the biggest crime against the black community is. Commited by blacks and the community, government is not doing enough to fix it, even though the black community as a whole continues to vote the same leaders into office, just like the white on the right does.

Munson

It's not the job of the Democrats or the Republicans to make the lives of those living in the inner city better. THAT is the responsibility of the people to do themselves. What IS the responsibility of the government is to make the environment easier to deal with for the people that live in that environment, to set them up for the best chance of success.

The Republicans make that very hard sometimes.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

phillymic2000

I agree that the right does make that hard, BUT when the policies, programs, support in the cities has been run by the left for so long, how can you not throw the majority of the blame on the local and state leaders? That would just be common sense.

Munson

Well that's probably where you and I will find the most agreement. Politicians on all levels have been bought off to serve only a select few's best interests, and do just enough everywhere else to get re-elected, but not enough to actually live up to the responsibilities they've been entrusted with. I do not think the solution to that is simply "less government"....I don't know if there is an actual solution. You just have to hope that the people that are next in line in my generation are as sick of the corruption as they all seem to be.

The point you're trying to make is fine -- that Democrats and Republican legislatures each have farged inner city communities, but I have issues with people not taking an honest assessment of the situation from a macro level.

After slavery, blacks were denied various employment opportunities, given inferior school systems, and unquestionably treated as second class citizens throughout the country.  The reasons blacks kill blacks at such a high rate is the construction of our society has formed African-Americans to live almost exclusively in the inner city.  They didn't have any substantial avenues to make money to work their way out, AND the school systems which they were provided were wildly inferior in comparison to affluent white neighborhoods.

Now, the situation has improved and so has societal treatment based on race (not perfect, but it's obviously better than it was fifty years ago).  The problem is it's really hard to overcome systemic racism and racist policies which are so deeply rooted in our culture.  The opportunity to do so now is greater than it used to be, but inner city kids are still playing against a wildly stacked deck.

It's amazing too me how many (mainly white) people write this off and/or simply don't understand it.

It's also amazing when the wingnuts try to tell you they could walk into any inner city school and do a better job teaching then the overpaid, fat cat teachers there. lolz.
