as in by the time he was dead 95% of his body was filled with whiskey?
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Sorry 'bout your grandmother munson. All my grandparents have passed except for my grandma on my Dad's side. She's 103 this year. Still sharp, but has cataracts so bad she can barely see.

#*%"! ...sorry bout that...

thanks for the kind words to the folks that did. It's a shame that there will someday soon be no more WW2 vets left. Big piece of this country's history

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Munson talking about the WW2 generation reminded me of one thing about my Pop:

He loved to tell stories about camp life - talked about "eating damned spaghetti every f'n day" and how he got a purple heart because another GI shot him in the ass with buckshot over a woman, and happened to be in a battle zone.  He never talked about battles or actual fighing of the war - ever.  I'm sure he wasn't alone on this.

He did what he had to do, and didn't want to relive the war.

Every once in awhile, though, when he slept on the couch, he would start talking in his sleep.  Not shouting, but talking.  It was always war-related.

Munson

Yeah my grandmother's stories were mostly about the people she met and the places she was...never the gruesome stuff she saw in the hospitals and stuff. Can't imagine what it was like in an Army hospital back then.

There's still about 20+ year before that completely happens.  Some of the vets that enlisted at 16,17 are only in their early 80s.  Most of my WWII stories are from word from mouth from my mom from her uncles.  I had one uncle survive his ship being torpedoed.  The survivors hung on to pieces of debris/driftwood from the ship, but most didn't make it.  Needless to say, my mom says he was super messed up from the experience.

My mother's father was a Marine who fought at Iwo Jima.  "Super messed up," is a nice way to put it.  It's a heavy load to carry, surviving war when dozens around you didn't, killing people.  The guy never got over it.  Many didn't.

One of my buddys in work is from India.  Great guy.  IT specialist.  I've seen him eat stuff from McDonald's, chicken strips fries so on.  We made a big pot of dogs and kraut today at lunch.  I told him to grab a couple.  He came back later and thanked me and wanted to know what kind they were.  I told him they were Nathans Beef Franks.  He just looked at me for a couple seconds and said "Oh.........oh."  I said "What's wrong"  He said "I don't eat beef."  I told him I was sorry and he said a few times "no problem".

Here's my question.  Will he purge them out or go on a week long beef binge now that he has a taste for it.

Beef lust. I've seen it a thousand times.

Me too.  Usually if I'm looking down.
