Anyone seen a good movie lately?

Rome

It's a thirty year old movie and they changed five seconds of it.  I care deeply, obviously.

Tucker and Dale Vs Evil. You want a good comedy? Watch that. I laughed all the way through it.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Having Vader yell Noooooo in that scene is a farging travesty. Silent Vader throwing the Emperor over the railing was one of the most powerful scenes in movie history. Now it's ruined forever.

I really don't give a shtein what he does to his movies.  If he wants to keep farging them up, that's on him.  Just keep the unmolested og available for me in the latest and greatest format is all I ask.  And if he's really bored, maybe he could make the remake the prequels so they don't suck.

Still don't understand the hatred for the prequels. Outside of the terrible dialogue (and acting) between Anakin and Padme, I didn't have a problem with them. Everyone likes to harp on Jar Jar Binks but I was too busy enjoying the farging awesome lightsabre duel(s) in the first one to let him bother me.

The first one was all around bad other than Darth Maul and the few battle scenes.  Even young Anakin was annoying.  The pod race was terrible and the "commentators" for the race were off the charts awful and cliche.  And Jar Jar Binks....yeah, can't really say anything that hasn't already been said about that cluster farg.

The 2nd movie was better and I loved the Yoda fight scene towards the end.  But overall, the movie was still pretty meh.

The 3rd was the best of the 3, but that isn't saying much.  It got a solid "ok" from me.

The casting was mostly terrible and the writing/dialogue sucked ass.  I could probably spend an hour bitching about everything I hated about them but instead I'll just go back to pretending they don't exist.

They didn't live up to the originals. Which is fine, but they weren't even close. Lucas expanded on all the shtein fans hated about the OT when he made the prequels. Way too much CGI, the story sucked, Anakin's story wasn't as interesting as it should have been. He threw 20% of the movie in EP1, another 20% in EP2, then threw 60% in EP3. The love story between Padme/Anakins was an abomination. I don't like sappy shtein but his affair with Padme was a huge part of the story and they had zero chemistry. There were a ton of quotable scenes and classic cinema in the OTs (especially ANH and ESB). There were none in the prequels. Overall the characters blew. Then throw in his lame attempts at humor and what you have is a great big pile of CGI shtein. It's pretty well documented I'm a SW geek, I'll enjoy anything they throw at me (I watch the Clone Wars cartoon) but I 100% understand why people didn't like the prequels.

The few times I've caught it, the Clone Wars cartoon wasn't half bad.

My son loves the Star Wars movies.  Then again, he is seven and loves the Power Rangers, too...

Meh...hating on a movie for using CGI is like hating on a band for sounding more "polished" now that they're on a bigger label with better studio equipment. If the originals were made in a time when CGI could do what it does now, they'd be pretty much pure CGI too.

I didn't think the story sucked (in terms of the Naboo Blockade/war, introducing us to Obi-Wan's mentor, showing the early stages of Sidious' plans, etc)...though I do agree they didn't do enough with Anakin's story. And as I said earlier I definitely agree with you on the Anakin/Padme scenes...by far the worst parts of any of the 6 movies IMO.

I think a better actor as Anakin in the 2nd and 3rd ones would have been nice too. Not a Hayden Christiwhatever fan.

CGI is fine, overdoing CGI to the point where the entire movie is one CGI scene trying to top the next is a problem. Anakin's story is the prequels. When I used to watch the OT there was this mystique about Anakin Skywalker and his turn to the darkside. I always envisioned a grown up character who Obi Wan discovered then trained him in secrecy without the councils knowledge. What we got was some stupid kid and an angst teen. There were a ton of famous actors (Dicaprio/Ryan Phillipe) who wanted to play Anakin but Lucas and his arrogance had to go with the 'unknown'.

I'm just thankful the prequels are halfway decent, at least he didn't butcher them as bad as he did Indiana Jones.

Yeah see, I guess growing up with the movies made it so the anakin story was paramount to you, and Lucas not really doing the best he could with it I guess would farg shtein up for your generation of fans...but for me I was always more interested in the other stuff...what the Jedi Order was like before the Empire, how Sidious was able to corrupt his way to power, what Yoda was like before he was senile, what Mace Windu's role would eventually be in the fall of the Republic (he had the farger at the end of his blade! farging anakin...), etc.

The Sidious/Yoda lightsabre duel is so farging epic.

The best lightsaber duel is and always will be Luke vs. Vader in the carbonite chamber in ESB followed by their duel in ROTJ. I prefer the slower paced classic duels over the fast paced jumping all over the place duels. It's sort of like old school wrestling with slow measured moves compared to the high paced slop we see today.

Whose head explodes first after reading this page? I'll go with Todd since he's a latenighter. Followed by Russell, Dio, then igy.

Munson

Hah, that's a good analogy. I enjoyed the speedy fights simply because I thought it added to how powerful the Force was/what people could do with it. But yeah the Luke/Vader fights are epic in an entirely different way.

I don't know how much of a Maul fan you were, but if you liked his character I recommend picking up the Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter book (if you haven't already). I haven't read it in years but it was a nice little insight to the character and some of his back story.
