They put people on the wall because of what they mean to the organization. Kruk was a big part of the World Series team and now he's a national sports figure who goes out of his way to speak highly of the organization. No brainer in my opinion. I though Juan Samuel getting put on the wall was iffy. He had a few good years and then he disappeared until he became the 3rd base coach.

Regardless, it's a wall with plaques on it. Fill it up for all I care. How many current Phillies will be put on that wall?

Rollins
Utley
Howard
Hamels
Lidge
Halladay
Ruiz
Lee
Victorino

My guess is he's playing by mid October, maybe by game 6.

They have a bye week 7, and they could save a roster spot by having him start the season on PUP and play in game 7 just after the bye.

So, what you're saying really makes no sense at all. Either he'll play sooner than that or the game after that. Game 6 is the absolute least likely scenario. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

My hell includes nagging women, Miller Lite, people overusing the word literally, and retired football jerseys. So yeah, I'm pretty close.

If you look back Kruk was actually a pretty awesome player for the Phillies.  One of the best first basemen in franchise history.

I agree he was a good player.  That's not the point.  The point is that wall should be reserved for players who were great for at least a decade or longer, not for a guy who played for five years.

So Ashburn, Roberts, Schmidt, Carlton, Klein, Ennis, Callison etc. are the only players you think are worthy to be up on that wall. It's going to be harder and harder to add to that wall considering free agency doesn't let players stay in the same spot for over a decade.

Munson

Yeah i was gonna say...that's gonna leave off Halladay, and possibly even Utley or Howard..

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Get your Phillies bullshtein out of my Eagles bullshtein.

The man. The myth. The legend.

QB Eagles

The Phils Wall of Fame is and should be a relatively easy goal to reach: They induct one person every year, and wall space is essentially infinite. Kruk absolutely reaches the level of Wall of Fame inclusion. If not him, then they'd have to put in someone from the 1890s, a beloved groundskeeper, or someone who worked in the box office for 50 years.

Retiring jerseys is and should be a relatively difficult goal to reach, on par with being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Perhaps even more restrictive than that. The obvious reason for this is that there are a finite number of one and two-digit numbers, and the team can have as many as 80 players during the pre-season. If the Eagles retired the number of every player that J loves, they wouldn't be able to field a pre-season team, and they'd probably be totally out of numbers within 3 years.

do you think donovan's vagina will be dry during his number retirement ceremony?
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

you are mixing up the wall and a retired number....its pretty irrelevant as to who ends up on the wall...the wall is for memorable players...retired numbers are for the elite players

you are basically saying kruk should not have his number retired....which no one would disagree with
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word
