I knew he had a knee injury, I didn't realize it was microfracture surgery. They're saying he might not be ready till midseason. Whatever, he's quality depth.

Coughlin was quoted as saying he had a 'ways to go' as far as playing goes. The Eagles examined him and said he could be ready early into the season.

Bleeding Green suggesting that he starts on PUP. That wouldn't be to solve the Maclin problem.

But if Maclin's OK, where does Smith fit in? As the #4 or does he bump Avant?

If he gets that knee right, this could be a REAL good signing. He was Eli's 3rd down converter with great hands, similar to (if not better than) what Avant is for the Eagles. If nothing else, it's a nice farg you to the Giants because they were exploring the option of bringing him back.

Roob is on CSN right now saying he talked to someone down at the Novacare who said the Eagles think Smith could be back within the first month of the season.
