Okay music heads, I got a couple little projects going...help me out if you feel like it:

I'm trying to compile a set of songs with 'chicken' in them.  In the title, in the lyrics, in the band name, whichever.

I've got a pretty comprehensive list going, but if you know a song ain't on the following list, lemme know (or even better, send me the song):

  • I have
    Detroit Cobras - Shout Bamalama
Steve Goodman - Chicken Cordon Bleus
Dr. Alimantado - Best Dressed Chicken in Town
Felice Brothers - Run Chicken Run, possibly Chicken Wire
Scott H. Biram - Downtown Chicken
John Lee Hooker - Bottle Up and Go
Bob Dylan & The Band - Don't Ya Tell Henry.  Lo and Behold.
    Bob Dylan - Tombstone Blues
    Radar Bros. - Chickens
    Cake - Fashion Nugget
White Zombie - El Phantasmo and the Chicken-Run Blast-O-Rama
    Loose Fur - Hey Chicken
Raconteurs - Consoler of the Lonely (intro Daddy will you tell me the story about the chicken)
    Radiohead  - Paranoid Android
Rudie can't fail - the Clash
Ry Cooder - Crow Black Chicken
Beastie Boys - Slow Ride, Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun, Shake Your Rump, Sounds of Science, Hold It Now Hit It,
    Jethro Tull - Mother Goose
A Tribe Called Quest - Scenario
    Clutch - Animal Farm
    MIA - Boyz
Red Hot Chili Pepers - Apache Rose Peacock
Big Black - The Power of Independent Trucking
Johnny Cash - Sunday Morning Coming Down, Dirty 'Ol Egg Sucking Dog, Like the 309, The Man Comes Around

  • I need better versions of these:
The Doors -- Back Door Man (version I have skips)
Ramones - I just want to have something to do (cuts off short)
Byrds - I'm a Lover of the Bayou (cuts off short, poor sound quality.)

  • need to get/candidates for final set
Willie Nelson - Sunday Morning Coming Down
    Les Paul - Chicken Reel
    James Brown- the chicken
Mississippi John Hurt - The chicken
Link Wray - Run Chicken Run
John Lee Hooker - Chicken and Gravy
Sly and the Family Stone - Chicken
Ian Drury and the Blockheads - Chicken
    Ike and Tina - Chicken
    Little Feat - Dixie Chicken
Cibo matto - Know your Chicken
    King Missile - Chickens
A Tribe Called Quest - Ham N' Eggs
The Beatiful South - I ain't Never Lost a Chicken to a Fox
    Woody Guthrie - Talkin' Blues
    Clutch - Green Buckets
Bob Mould - Whichever Way the Wind Blows
Albert Collins - Don't Mistake Kindness for Weakness
    MIA - Lovalot
Stevie Wonder - I Was Made to Love Her
Elvis - Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On
Modest Mouse - The Stars are Projectors, The fruit that ate itself
Jethro Tull - Piece of Cake
Carol King - chicken soup with rice
    The Bees - chicken payback
Zac Brown Band - chicken fried, sic' 'em on a chicken
Bonnie Raitt - Longing in their Hearts
Drive By truckers - 3 dimes down -
Cool Kids - What up man
Dixie Chicks - voice inside my head
Dead Kennedys - stars and stripes of corruption
Dr. Dog - Die die die
Cracker - How Can I live Without You
    Fairport Convention - angel delight
    The Coup - Nowalaters
from West Side Story / Bernstein - Jet Song
    Gladys Knight - Grandma's hands
Rickie Lee Jones - Woody and Dutch on the Slow Train to Peking
Lupe Fiasco - Dumb it Down
    Fishbone - Sourpuss

I know that ICP has a bunch of songs that fit but they suck.  Same for Jimmie's Chicken Shack.  I'm also not interested in most rap, because most rap farging sucks, but if it's good, by all means lemme know.

Also, I'm drumming up a set of songs that would be suitable for children, but which were not necessarily recorded for them.  Songs like Louden Wainright III's
"Dead Skunk," Arlo Guthrie's
"Motorcycle Song,"  or the Trashmen's
"Surfin' Bird." Any suggestions would be welcome.

Buckethead has an album called Enter the Chicken and innumerable chicken references throughout his career. Not a lot of lyrics in his shtein though. Here's an example:

8-piece Box

Fried Chicken and Gasoline

I've seen them a couple times and barely escaped being hit by fried chicken thrown from the stage, but I couldn't find any references to chicken in the tracks I have.  I knew there had to be some in their catalog somewhere.  Thank you.

Little Feat's Dixie Chicken came to mind right away.

And how about Backdoor Man? ("I eat more chicken than any man's ever seen.") Go with the original Willie Dixon version, not the Doors version.

Diomedes

Both songs came to me immediately as well, and are on my list already.  It had not occured to me to get the Willie Dixon version of "Back Door Man" however...great idea.

Bah...sorry. I had "match case" checked on Firefox, so I missed it on your list. I'll keep my thinking cap on.

Yeah they put on a great show.  8-Piece Box is when they throw chicken (as you can see in the video)

How did Springsteen's "Atlantic City" not pop into your head first thing, igy?  I mean Christ, he's your boy, and the words "chicken" and "Philly" are featured in the first couplet of the song
