That's not what they mean, the features of the iphone drag down the entire network.

Yeah...getting all the push notifications really has to bog things down.  Someone updates their facebook or makes a comment, you get a notification.  New email, you get a notification.  Twitter notifications, ebay alerts, travel updates, etc etc.  I've got nearly all of them turned off or set to manual.

There is a spot along the highway here, a busy stretch of interstate, where it drops my calls every time. As soon as I hit the zone, dropped call.

Hopefully AT&T opts not to be dicks about it and "allows" the hotspot feature.  If it works well, then I wouldn't see the need to switch to a 3G iPad.

I want to see how users on Verizons network shakes out here.

There is a backbreaker with the iPhone and Verizons network. It runs strictly on CDMA technology--which will not allow you to talk on the phone while accessing data simultaneously--basically the call overrides the data.  Also, it only works on the older 3G network. I think the best bet is to wait for the iPhone to run on Verizons LTE network.

Talking and accessing email and Internet is important to me so I hope they keep AT&T at work.

That's one thing I hated about the blackberry was I couldn't do both.

I agree...this is why I might wait on it. My boss has already given me the okay to make the switch (at his cost) from Blackberry to iPhone when I want to...I just have to decide when I want to. LOL

Just to make sure I'm understanding this correctly, this is completely different than tethering, correct?  If I'm not mistaken, I could shell out an extra $15/month to tether my ipad to my iphone so that I can use my ipad when I'm not in a wi-fi zone and still access the web.  This will more or less turn my phone into a "wireless router " and I'm assuming I can set up some sort of password to secure it so that the dude sitting next to me can't just connect to my phone and suck up my data.  Is that pretty much it or am I way off?

Im talking about something completely different...but youre spot on with how tethering works.

I'm just talking about the iphone update in the article you posted vs tethering....2 totally different things, right?
