What's worse, these self described constitutional originalists didn't read the document as it was written, as you might expect from them, but instead they omitted the parts that were later amended.  So they skipped the part about slaves being worth 3/5ths of a person, etc, only to then make a big show of having a civil rights icon read the 13th Amendment.

It's a bald faces publicity stunt.  And pretty well executed.  They might as well have passed the proverbial "apple pie is good" bill.
