He is a proven NFL quarterback who is still in his prime. You do not trade them away. Certainly not to a division rival.

There was no reason to hand Kolb that starting job.

other than the fact that reid had spent the last three years building the offense around his skills you mean?

so they spent the last three yrs to build around Kolb over McNabb?

if McNabb was kept and Reid was fired you would be ok with McNabb here?

I'd have been more ok with keeping McNabb for another year with a new coach (and dumping the Walrus) and seeing what he could do with another year with the kiddies than what happened but we got what we got. Honestly I wanted and want both of those knuckleheads gone. I've wanted Reid gone longer then McNabb, far longer (that season opening disaster against the Titans was the first time I wanted that SOB to be canned) but neither one of them are good for more then teasing success and finding a way to rip out your heart. McNabb's still a whiny bitch and I'm still glad he's gone. One overrated guy gone, one to go.

QB Eagles

Is the scenario so difficult to understand?

The Eagles weren't winning any Super Bowls this year (or next) with Kolb, Vick, McNabb, or Brady. Too many positions on the team needed replenishment.

McNabb is no longer at his peak but still had trade value. Rather than pay him big and get diminishing returns each year from an aging and oft-injured QB, they traded him in for a guy who should be their starting free safety for the next decade.

They had a young QB on their roster who they like and who can grow with the young team, instead of getting worse and more inconsistent each year. Hopefully the young team will establish chemistry and they can start filling in the remaining pieces and again be a major force in the NFL for a long while.

And what if they are wrong about Kolb and his ceiling is what we saw on Sunday? Well, for starters, it will take a while to determine that. Most good QBs suck when they first begin their starting careers. I think Drew Brees flat-out sucked for 2+ years as a starter. You just have to stick with him for a little while and see if the talent the coaches think they see in him shows up. Reid supposedly knows how to groom QB talent.

But if Kolb does suck, then the core of the team will still be young enough to get another big-name drafted QB, FA, or play with Vick as a stopgap for one or two years until one becomes available. And then you have another shot to hit the bigtime. But for this year at least, you have to see what you have in Kolb.

It's not just that this method gives them a better shot at winning the SB. It also gives them the best shot at returning to what the Eagles were in the early part of the last decade. Not riding McNabb until he's embarrassing himself out there every week in 2013 and all the young guys' career years have been wasted on a relic who was elite in the early '00s. Let it go, the old window was closed.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Well it is my belief that they could have fortified the areas that needed it and kept my McNabb, the proven quarterback.

Because with McNabb or Kolb those positions still needed and could have been addressed, right?

They could have beefed up the running game and OL and defense regardless of what happened with the QB position. I don't buy that they HAD to dump McNabb. They could have re-loaded with him.

You take a couple more shots with the veteran QB and the young supporting cast. That is my opinion and how I think they should have handled it.

They've been doing that for the past 5 seasons. That's an eternity in football. His chance was 2004 and he blew it. Was there any season after that one that you think they could have added a piece here or there and won the Superbowl?

So he only gets one legit chance?

Could they have done better in player evaluation and additions? Hell yes!

I mean, they signed Mike McfargingMahon as their only FA after the SB run!!
