Didn't we clear this one up in the 16th century? Copernicus be damned, 20 percent of Americans were still sure in 1999 that the sun revolved around the Earth. Gallup, the pollster that conducted the study, gamely tried to dress it up by celebrating the fact that "four out of five Americans know Earth revolves around the sun," but we're not buying.

This one is just...wow.

QuoteRIYADH, Saudi Arabia – A Saudi court is trying to persuade a man paralyzed in a fight to drop his demand to inflict a similar injury on his attacker by having his spinal cord surgically damaged, a judiciary spokesman said Monday.

The court has determined that such a procedure could result in the attacker's death and is appealing to the victim to accept financial compensation instead, the spokesman said, speaking on condition of anonymity under judiciary rules.

Abdul-Aziz al-Mutairi, 22, was left paralyzed and subsequently lost a foot after a fight more than two years ago in which a man attacked him with a cleaver. He asked a judge in northwestern Tabuk province to impose an equivalent punishment on his attacker under Islamic law.

After consulting with Saudi hospitals, the judge ruled that such a procedure could be fatal and that blood money would be a fair deal.

The victim's brother, Khaled al-Mutairi, told The Associated Press by telephone that he had not received such a proposal from the court and could not comment on what decision the family might take.

Rights group Amnesty International has urged Saudi authorities not to deliberately paralyze the attacker, saying that doing so would constitute torture.

Saudi Arabia enforces strict Islamic law and occasionally doles out punishments based on the ancient legal code of an eye-for-an-eye.

According to Amnesty, convicts have had teeth pulled by dentists in retribution for knocking people's teeth out in fights and others have been sentenced to be blinded after causing people to go blind.

Quoteseemingly every demographic in the country has a voice looking out for their own kind, except for White people. that would be racissssssss, of course.
but, if you're polynesian, it's cool to be proud of your heritage. hell, you even have a website specifically for coaches to check out you and your fellows.

nope, there's no double standard at all. if you're good enough to play, that's all that matters.

QuoteThe previews for 2010 are done! Thanks to all who have helped this season. I appreciate it! Clap Thumbs Up Now for some numbers comparing things from year to year.

Number of teams that started at least 11 whites out of 22 positions since 2005

At the moment, the number of half White or better teams is the same this year as last, while the number of teams with 10 White starters decreased by two.

Let's compare the number of White starters for each team from last year's least White conference (SEC) to last year's Whitest conference (MWC) with those same conferences for this upcoming season.

Thanks to some pre-season changes, the MWC is still half White when it comes to starters. Of course these numbers could still change. On the other end of the stick, the SEC was a miserable one quarter White last season but still managed to make that number lower this year. Hopefully some injuries or changes to the starters will bring this number up as well, but I'm not holding my breath. At least two of these Systematically Excluding Caucasian teams have coal black two deep depth charts. It hasn't been good to be a White SEC football player for a long time, and this season appears to be the worst yet.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
