It's a good night to die, phillymic.

Heh.

QuoteFunny thing. What Osborne really wanted was a seamless transition from the end of his coaching career in 1997 into the AD's office, just the way Devaney had done it in the early 1970s. But the Nebraska chancellor at the time, Graham Spanier, pre-empted that plan years earlier by hiring Bill Byrne for the job in 1992. Osborne was so pleased that he went fishing -- he insisted at the time that it was a trip planned long in advance -- instead of attending Byrne's introductory news conference.

The Big Ten will have 12 teams in 2011, split into 2 divisions.  Each team will play all teams within their division every season, plus 4 of the 6 teams in the other division on a rotating schedule.  The rumor is that Wisconsin and Iowa will be in different divisions but will have a "protected" matchup and thus play every year anyway.  The same type of thing is very possible for Michigan and Ohio State also, because it would allow them the opportunity to play in the Big Ten championship game against each other.

So if ESPN is reporting this, someone else probably has more inside info.  Find it.

meh - couldnt get the text to post - i was pointing out one of the posters responding that said right now penn state/iowa is the biggest rivalry in the big ten.

wait so out of the 12 games they get 10 are going to conference matchups?

does this spell the end for the penn st - temple series? motherfarger id give up 10 pizza bowls and 30 mac titles for a win over them.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Are you assuming the teams are going to play with themselves?

6 teams per division = 5 games for each team to play everyone else in the division
+ 4 games against teams in other division
= 9 games against the Big Ten

There will still be 3 non-conference games every year for Penn State to schedule cupcakes like Temple and Bucks County Community College.

MDS

oh ok 3 at least opens the door for temple or akron or something

but youve got to figure unless the money is too good to pass up they are done playing big time ooc games like bama, nd, etc. i mean they rarely if ever play those anyway but now the off chance is gone.

I expect that they'll still have one non-conference game against a decent opponent every year, but you're right... it will be harder to fit into the schedule.
