He's a Hoyda but that is an outstanding deal for his talent - especially since it's only one year.

his worst year was 58 pts, and he played under Hitchcock's system, then the Rangers plodding Defensive systems.  Laviolette's uptempo system has to play to his skills.  Just wish they had been able to make a trade prior to the signing, now Holmgren wont get shtein in a trade.

i tend to agree with this but what does it say about that pos that his end deal was so small and cap friendly....can you say massive baggage

Can you say he's entering UFA next season, and he wanted to play with an org that would showcase him?  He'll sign with Detroit or whoever will pay next year, but this is a good move.  He was apparently one of the best shootout guys prior to leaving for Russia

He thought he should be making 7 mill a year or something after that year with the Rangers.  They called his bluff and didnt bite at arbitration, and he went to play in russia for the year.
