gay.  I heard they were upgrading the movie playback and immediately assumed that's what it was.  I hear you can make your own playlist in the iPod now.. so that's cool.  and pandora all the time ftw.

phattymatty

yeah i havent played around much yet but it's definitely faster. not sure what other new things it does.

Susquehanna Birder

It's not bad. Being able to run Pandora all the time is a big plus for me. Much of the update is cosmetic - backgrounds, being able to put apps in folders, and the like. Looks like the multitasking thing is the main emphasis. That said, they now need to embrace Flash playback.

Am I understanding it correctly that current customers who pay $30/mo for unlimited data are basically grand fathered into that rate and will continue with that plan and only new customers will pay the new rates?

If that's the case, I'm curious if that grand fathering extends to changing/upgrading your phone.  In other words, if I upgrade to a new iPhone in 2 years, do I have accept the new plan or do I still keep my current data package and rates?

I can't speak for AT & T but I just switched from T-Mobile onto a Sprint account. My Uncle had 3 lines and was only using 2, he's grandfathered into the $30 per month rate. Yesterday I bought an HTC Touch pro 2 from some guy on Craigslist and transferred everything over without a problem.

COUNTER-POINT

The Samsung Epic will be coming out later this Summer.  It will be the second 4G phone and is also Android-based.  It has a touch screen but also a slide-out keyboard, and early reports are that the battery life is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the Evo.  So, if you are annoyed with always recharging your phone, you can return it and wait for the Epic.

SunMo

i considered that...but then remembered that flip keyboards are for gays

Possibly, but the idea of having a cell phone that doesn't last through the day even when not using it at all doesn't exactly strike me as an overly hetero thing to do either.

My buddy just returned the Evos he bought for himself and his wife.  He did all kinds of searching online for applications that kill unneeded processes and had them as optimized as possible.  He couldn't get his battery to last any longer than 9 hours, and his wife's wouldn't last more than 7.

I made the mistake of buying the Palm Pre last summer and eternally etched my name in the gay hall of fame. Battery dies within 4 hours. Whether I'm using it or not.

I have a hard on for my friend's EVO...looks awesome...but due to my stupid ass jumping in to get the Pre last summer...I'll wait it out and check out what the Samsung has to offer. Based on my experience witht the stupid ass smart phone and its touch screen...the slide out keyboard is a must for when the phone's brain takes a shtein...you can still make calls.

What is the reputation of HTC phones vs. Samsung?
