notice how the person who actually served doesnt think there should be a draft? and the person who would be drafted doesnt want one? yet, the two middle aged dudes who wouldnt be touched want one.

this is the crust of the argument

the draft scales are so tipped its not even funny...the poorest of the poor and the low end of the society gets picked to die and the rich and well to do get off scott free

this is how its been and this is how it always will be

even without a draft the well to do's in our society have a built in advantage

this is why i cant believe my man dio actually wants a draft...what the farg has happened to him
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Rome

dio wants a draft precisely because the lower classes in this country are so desperate for a future that they're willing to risk their lives to get one.

those with the werewithal to avoid serving shouldn't be exempt just because they have money.  they should share the burden as citizens.  if they did the change you'd see in this country would be both abrupt and stunning.

on farging point

and as cliche as it is to say...if youre a representative of congress and you vote for a war your seedlings are IN...no questions asked...same with regular citizens who are all john wayne blow the rest of the world up...you and your peoples also go IN...yes i know theres no way to regulate this but those people are the worst of the worst and make me beyond angry

i don't want a draft because i don't want someone who doesn't want to be there.  i don't want to have to babysit some snotty punk who complains all freaking day and doesn't have the motivation to get his job done because he'd rather be in college or working on a farm or sitting on the couch smoking pot.

This makes a lot of sense, especially coming from someone in the know. People like that would be a detriment.

While all of this draft conversation is fascinating, I would like to address the fact that Obama signed on for a one year extension of the Patriot Act and offer a very loud 'farg you' to him and everyone who has ever had anything to do with the creation, implementation and/or execution of that bullshtein. farg you.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

Sgt PSN

i saw that the other day.  have no farging clue what his logic is behind that since i'm pretty sure i remember him speaking out against it during the campaign.

rjs246

It's 100% political. Anything he does to lessen the Patriot Act's powers can be construed as weak on terrorism. farging bullshtein is what it is. farging bullshtein.

Anyway, I agree with Dio. Bring on the draft and watch what happens.

i figured it has to be something that he's doing to cater to the right in an attempt to garner some of their support to get other issues resolved....like maybe healthcare or something.  still....i care a lot less about healthcare than i do my rights.

oh, and farg the draft and farg you too pooh bear.

I thought he did lessen it's powers?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_obama_patriot_act

According to the article, there are three sections that will stay in force:
-Authorize court-approved roving wiretaps that permit surveillance on multiple phones.
-Allow court-approved seizure of records and property in anti-terrorism operations.
-Permit surveillance against a so-called lone wolf, a non-U.S. citizen engaged in terrorism who may not be part of a recognized terrorist group.

if I'm reading that correctly, that's saying in order to wiretap or seize records and property, they need a court approved warrant. since the Patriot Act first came into being when I was like 14, were those original stipulations of it? Cause i thought the uproar was Bush was giving the government power to do those things WITHOUT warrants and all that jazz.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Also I don't know how much of it has to do with catering to the right, as the vote in the house to extend it didn't even get 100 votes against it.

oh look, another uninformed military expert. you would really fit in with them peoples in dc, rusty boy.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Sgt PSN

even though i disagree with both dio and rusty's support of a draft, i'd be hard pressed to call either of them uninformed.  if there's any 2 people here who have repeatedly proven themselves as fairly thorough in doing their homework, it's those 2.  i seriously doubt either of them would come to their conclusions just because they like the sound of it.  although it is highly possible that both were completely shtein faced when they posted.

MDS

uninformed about the military, not politics in general. how can you really act like you know whats good for the military and for combat and all that stuff unless you actually experienced it. which is why i heed the advice of people who were there or are there. like you, sassy. LIKE YOU.

i said it "elsewhere".

obama should have crushed it like a beer can on january 20, 2009 at 12:01 pm.  He didn't and that was disappointing enough.  this latest deception is flat-out disgusting.
