The Eagles have signed punter Durant Brooks to provide depth and potentially competition for Sav Rocca, who will be a restricted free agent.

Brooks was not in the league last season after being drafted in the sixth round in 2008 by Washington and appearing in six games. He had a gross average of 39.6 yards per punt and a net average of 32.1 yards per punt for the taterskins before being released.

He spent the remainder of that season on Green Bay's practice squad and was with the Packers until the end of training camp before this past season.

Brooks won the Ray Guy Award as a senior at Georgia Tech as the best punter in the country. He also was tutored by Guy, a family friend and fellow Georgian.

Rocca has a franchise-record 37.1 career net average and broke his own single-season team record in 2009 with a 38.3 net.

i didn't realize that rocca set the single season franchise record for net avg.  either he's not as bad as we thought or the eagles have just had the absolute worst punters ever.

Eagaholic

or he just hit a bunch more 58 yarders than 30 yard shanks which came at bad times

I do have to say that game against the Steelers last year was the only time I've ever seen a punter take a game over

General_Failure

What's really incredible is he hit that average while punting on about 80% of all drives.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Munson

When they just let him lay into the thing he's good, but when they tried to get him to angle shtein towards the sidelines he became a shankapottamus.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

And since he doesn't have the legs he once did, he'd maybe make a mediocre starter.

QuoteEagles add Dick Jauron as DBs coach
Posted by Evan Silva on February 2, 2010 9:35 PM ET
NFL.com's Jason La Canfora reports that the Eagles have hired ex-Bills head coach Dick Jauron to coach their secondary.

Jauron replaces Brian Stewart on staff.  Stewart left Philadelphia a week ago to take the defensive coordinator job at the University of Houston.

In Philadelphia, Jauron will be charged with coaching up a pass defense that ranked No. 17 overall in 2009.  The Eagles have a pair of top-flight cornerbacks in Sheldon Brown and Asante Samuel, as well as a reliable strong safety in Quintin Mikell.  Free safety has been a trouble spot.

The Eagles are also expected to upgrade at left defensive end this offseason.  A potent pass rusher at that position would theoretically take pressure off Philadelphia's defensive backs and increase their big-play opportunities.

MDS

yea really.

im guessing mcdermont is expected to be a head coach at some point? and juron figures he can slide into the coordinator spot once he goes? otherwise why would he wait until a coordinator spot opened up?
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
