i like what i saw from white last year, but i wouldn't say he's a "must sign" nor would i say that he's better than ike was.  at this point, given his youth, i would say he's a poor man's ike reese at the moment, but he's still young and can improve.  ike reese, you may recall, wasn't really a fan favorite in the beginning.  i remember him drawing several stupid penalties, usually of the 15 yard variety during his first couple seasons.  i actually hated dude when he first came up.

I agree, and that's why I think they have to sign him. Because he's young enough to grow into that role of STs captain and valuable nickel guy. He'll be able to be had on the cheap side - so they have to sign him. No more letting good players leave. Keep what ya got and build it.

QuoteEagles nab Bobby April
Posted by Mike Florio on January 14, 2010 3:47 PM ET
As former Bills special teams coordinator Bobby April was being pursued by the likes of the Steelers and the taterskins, another candidate for his services was gliding under radar.

And that candidate landed his services.

The Eagles have announced that April has been hired to take over Philly's special teams.  He replaces special teams coordinator Ted Daisher.

The fact that the Eagles didn't fire Daisher until they had the newest bird in the hand allowed them to chase April discreetly.

The Eagles also have terminated the contracts of strength and conditioning coach Mike Wolf and assistant strength and conditioning coach Jay Merlino.

That is a very underrated, solid move.

Daisher sucked. He was one of the reasons Rocca was stinking up the joint because Rocca was under direction to not lay into the punts with all he had, but rather punt directionally.

Drunkmasterflex

That is pretty big, he is one of the best ST coaches in the NFL.

Bleacher Report on what the Eagles do with their FA's:

Sean Jones - will be re-signed unless the Eagles get Atogwe or think they can draft Mays.
Trotter - Bye-bye.
Babin - Gone.
Tracy White - Signed. He's Ike Reese Part II.
Leonard Weaver - The #1 guy the Eagles should be re-signing.
Jason Avant - The #1A guy the Eagles should be re-signing.
Ellis Hobbs - Most likely gone, unless there isn't a market for him.
Nick Cole - Only if the Eagles get him cheap, otherwise let him walk.
Alex Smith - Gone.
Gaither - See ya.
Max Jean-Gilles - Adios.
Chris Gocong - 50/50 shot at staying or going. Back as a back up, but nothing more.
Sav Rocca - Likely will stay. How much of a market is there for punters?
Akeem Jordan - Probably will be back.

I wouldnt make excuses for friggin sav rocca. the reason he was stinking up the joint is because he is very average. Sure he'll have the occasional solid punt, but he lacks consistency in a big way....and it always seems he f's up at the worst time.

I mean how many times was there a need for a directional kick if there is no superstar back there returning the punt?

Some dude that writes for a living says this:
QuoteRocca was very inconsistent all season long, but he did seem to pick it up near the end. It seemed like Ted Daisher, the Eagles' special teams coordinator, was trying to refine his kicking too much and only made it worse. Rocca seemed to be going through the motions like a robot, rather than just booting the ball as he did in his first season in Philly.

Towards the end of the season, it looks like someone figured that out and allowed him to go back to whatever he was doing before. He was consistently punting the ball over 50 yards and helping the Eagles win the field position battle. In fact, were it not for him, the Cowboys may have made those last two weeks far more humiliating with better field position.

Thanks to him, however, they only beat the Birds by a combined score of 58-14.

yeah...thanks for getting better field position sav.

The only people that I care to see them resign on that list are Avant and Weaver.  Everybody else doesn't really matter.

weaver probably should be priority number 1 but at the same time, it would seem to make sense for avant to take priority in reid's eyes because he loves the pass.  yes, i'm splitting hairs here.  eat it.

Drunkmasterflex

They just said on CSN Philly that the Eagles have approached Weaver's agent about a potential 5 year deal.

nice.

General_Failure

I won't believe it until I see it. Until then, I'm assuming Weaver and Avant are gone.

The man. The myth. The legend.

mpmcgraw

worst case scenario they sign with another team and we get draft picks.  They are both restricted.
