The other Alex Smith lands in Philly

Posted by Mike Florio on September 8, 2009 1:17 PM ET
A day after working out for the Giants, and only three days after being cut by the Patriots, tight end Alex Smith has agreed to terms with the Eagles, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Per Schefter, the deal is expected to be signed today.

Smith was a third-round pick of the Buccaneers in 2005, and he signed a free-agent deal with the Patriots in the offseason.  But he lost a battle with Benjamin Watson that neither man likely realized was an all-or-nothing competition.

As we reported last night, the Giants also worked out Leonard Pope on Monday.

He's a good backup with the potential and talent to start. Might never happen but whatever, he's a backup tight end for christ's sake. What do you people want from me?
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

I like it, at least better than Curtis.

Not that it matters, but what the hell are they going to do for with only 2 TEs in short yardage?

Would have preferred Leonard Pope, myself... but whatever... sure.

Not my home anymore, skippy... but if I knew a TE out of UConn that was a FA... I'd be all over him.
