No internet access in the ditches yet, so I'm late to the party.  Some thoughts, because you care:

Quote from: rjs246 on August 14, 2009, 07:51:49 AMThe dude was convicted of a crime, went to prison, lost all of his sources of income and is now flat broke. On top of that he has absolutely no marketable skills outside of football and organized dog fighting. The criminal justice system is in place for a reason. That reason was satisfied here. The dude should now be allowed to work at the only legitimate career he's capable of having.

You really think that simply because he was subjected to punishment according to the law, he should be afforded every opportunity to resume the dream lifestyle of being a pampered wealthy jockstar?  Because he's too stupid and unskilled to get work elsewhere, he should be welcomed back into the fold over and above other athletes who somehow manage not to operate gambling rackets or go on dog killing sprees?
It would be unfair to send him back to prison again, he's done his time.  That does not however make him clean again.  Having sat for 18 months according to the rules doesn't undo the fact that he ran an illegal gambling operation based on killing animals, killed animals himself, lied about all of it, etc.   You don't get to just wipe that out because you were subjected to punishment.  You don't get to just return to your million dollar lifestyle after something like that.  Where else in the world do you get to just walk back in after something like that?  Teachers don't get to step back into their schools after a drunk driving DUI.  Cops don't get their pensions back after getting caught laundering money from a stolen car racket.  Etc.

Quote from: ice grillin you on August 14, 2009, 08:00:53 AMit has very little to do with dogs....theres a huge racial element here...michael vick to the black community is the huey newton of black quarterbacks and they will go to the grave with him and to the white community hes way to black and represents all the savages in the ghettos of our cities who are ruining the country

if this involved a safe black guy like mcnabb or donte stallworth or a light skinned brother like hank baskett or robert smith the outrage would be far less

the split on wip is crystal clear and basically universal

all the brothers are like man paid his dues deserves a second chance and all the white callers are beside themselves

I'm bored sick of your small minded race theories.  No doubt race plays some role on a macro scale, as can be said about everything in America, but this kind of tripe is over-simplification at it's worst, and textbook vigy bullshtein.  Charcoal black or lily white, this is about a guy who acted like a scumbag first and foremost.  He was a jerk on the field, and as we all know, he was human scum off the field.  McNabb is "safe" because--as far as we know--he's a decent citizen.

Had Vick not been such an arrogant farg at first, the revelation of and reaction to his sick criminal exploits would not have been as severe.  But he is an icehole, so there you go.  Had his crimes not taken place over the course of a long stretch of time, but instead as a momentary break in otherwise good behavior (a la Stallworth), the reaction would not have been as severe.  But they were a drawn out premeditated pattern of action.

This isn't whity hating on the street stillupfront's mom, it's decent people revolted by an anti-social miscreant.

Also, oh holier-and-blacker-than-thou white boy: stop the ludicrous conceit that you somehow know what "all the brothers" think or how "the black community" views anything.  That's some goddamn incorrect thinking.  All the brothers have different opinions, just like any other group of people.  How you can claim that kind of shtein without calling yourself out as a racist is incredible.

He can have a life back.  If he announced that he's going to start an internship at SPCA and pursue a career down that line, he can have that and my support.  If he wants to go back to school, he can have that and I wish him the best.  He can go work at farging McDonalds, I'd still say please when I place my order.  What he can't and shouldn't do is strut back into his rock star NFL lifestyle wearing a mask of contrition under the tutelage of fraudulent mentors and worst of all, wearing a goddamn Philadelphia Eagles jersey.

I love you like a brother but you're wrong, dude.  Vick deserves a second chance at exactly the same sort of life he enjoyed before he farged up (on an admittedly unconscionable scale).  That's the deal in this country, like it or not.

And before anyone points out my utter hypocrisy, yes, I know I was one of his most vocal opponents previously.   But that was before he became an Eagle.

Cognitive dissonance for the motherfarging win.

General_Failure

If you want to see Vick take a verbal beating every day, there was no better place for him to end up. If Jeff Lurie was wrong about this self-hatred Vick has, and the guys is only sorry about being caught, it'll show up pretty quick. Even if he is genuinely remorseful, he'll snap at some point. Ghandi would probably tell somebody to suck his dick after the fifth or sixth week in a row that somebody in the stands threw chew toys and Milk Bones at him.

Thankfully, Vick landed in a city where busting balls never stops. I look forward to his inevitable meltdown.

The man. The myth. The legend.

No.  That's the deal in this country for the (in)famous, the wealthy, the jocks and the entertainers.  For the rest of us, we have to take our second chances the long way round, working our way back up from the ground up.  And we aren't welcomed back regardless how genuine our remorse or how hard our efforts to redeem ourselves.  You don't have to know many common felons to know that.

actually once you serve your time and pay your debt you can have as many chances as you want in life

second chance implies he farged up nothing happened to him and now hes being thrown a bone or something

dook went broke and did two in the pokey that earns him a "second chance" imo

he did 18 months, not 24...

he went broke because he was an idiot with his money, not as punishment for his crimes

Like Al Sharpton, you see a monster race angle everywhere you look.  And like him, you are sometimes right.  Also like him, you are often way wrong, and it makes you look the fool, and hurts your credibility.

This is about an anti-social icehole, plain and simple.
