Best is fat free dressings. Fat Free Italian isn't bad. Balsamic Vinaigrette is good if you can't do the fat free.

This is a great one with low calories and fat:

For fat-free, I usually do Catalina or Thousand Island because there's almost no difference from the regular.  Fat-free ranch tastes like mayo, and fat-free Italian has no flavor...

I usually eat my salad dry. I like the crunch, and none of the dressings I've tried are really worth the calories. And the fat-free labels pretty much read like a science experiment.

The very idea of calorie watching makes me want to snort a milkshake through a straw and shotgun a box of oreos.

Gotta do what you gotta do. I'm not big on actually counting calories, but it's a good idea to have a legitimate sense of what you're ingesting on a daily basis. The calories matter whether people want to count them or not. And if someone has a genetic predisposition to being heavy, he or she might want to take stock of how that happened. But, yeah, if you're lucky enough to avoid watching...that's more fun. Being fat, though...not that much fun.

I'm addicted to calorie counting now. Ever since I was on my strict ass diet and lost all the weight, I have used Fitday's calorie tracker. I add the foods I eat from their labels and count everything I toss down my gullet. I get pissed when I go out to eat and get home and see the restaurant doesn't have a nutritional chart. I hate it, but if I don't do it I feel like a slob.

SB,

My program was simple....my daily caloric intake was 1500-1800 and I worked out 6 days a week. Obviously one off day and one 'cheat' day with eating. That cheat would consist of maybe a good ribeye, baked potato and rice for dinner and a couple beers.

The workout was simple too. I did not want to get all crazy with some routine, so I kept it to 40mins a day on the eliptical for my cardio. Then I wold do 150 crunches, and alternate upper body and lower body strength every other day.

Upper body was bench press, incline press, decline press, shrugs, power clean and cable work (biceps, triceps, seated row).
Lower body was squats (most important one you can do, IMO), calf raises, leg press and quad work.

That "program" helped me drop about 125lbs from March 2007 until August 2007.

I supplemented it with one protein shake (GNC's crap [I like the orange cream and chocolate caramel] mixed with one cup of 1% milk), fish oil, green tea pills and the now pulled Hydroxycut Hardcore.

I've maintained my weight since August of 2007 for the most part and am now on my kick to lose the final 25 pounds that I want to get off. I'm taking it slower and not as strict, but its working.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Pretty much. I worked out angry too. Pissed for letting myself get to be a fatass. Like I tell anyone who asks, you can't force anyone into doing it. Everyone needs their "wow" moment and mine came on March 3rd 2007. I woke up, looked in the mirror and went and joined Planet Fitness a half hour later. It shocked me, but it was fun seeing the work pay off on the scale.

Thanks, reese.

Well, it was 40 mins of cardio and 40 mins of weights and 10 mins of crunches. But I refused to even consider any surgery. I was in shape in high school, played sports and all that..so I knew I could do the exercise. Plus I felt I would appreciate it more if I did it the hard way.

I ran 3.3 miles with the dog this morning, which is about a mile and a half further than my usual daily run.

There isn't enough flax seed oil in the world to make my knees feel better.
