Why don't you just come out and say the government should do nothing?  That is your argument right?

Or are you saying the government should cut taxes, lay off workers, close offices and departments, etc?

I do not think the gov. should do nothing. But come the farg on. The president said during his run for the office we need to spot spending and then all of a sudden give me 800 fargin billion dollars? wtf? spend the money on creating jobs, it's gone from creating 3.5 million jobs to now creating or "saving" 3.5 million. jobs. Give me a clear fargin vision like you promised mr. president. I'm tired of the dem & repub bullshtein. This man promised the country change and change for the better. Step the farg up and deliver. the country needs a leader, and this bill is not his, it's the farg ups in congress that have crafted this bill, and he needs to be the leader he said he would be and step the farg up and be the man.

Are you really so obtuse that you can't recognize that things have changed not only since Obama announced his run for the presidency, but even since he was elected in November?

The word "catastrophe" applies here.  The economy is in absolute free-fall and the ONLY farging thing that's gonna help stop the bleeding is a massive infusion of governmental spending.  It's just that simple.

Piss and moan all you want about Obama and liberals and debt our children won't pay off.  We're here now and this is the ONLY avenue we have left to take.

No, not a single person has said that. YOU, are the only one who keeps bringing it up over and over. It's old already so stop. I'm saying that the billions put towards government and other government programs is NOT what this bill is suppose to be about. It's supposed to be about jobs. Jobs created, not jobs saved either. Why should we give the government even more money if thats what taxes are supposed to be for?

Rome

It's not just about jobs, dude.

I'm fine with spending to turn the economy around, but wtf does 200 some billion next year and 300 some billion in 2011 need to be in this package? They should be spending money now and thats it. If we need 200 billion or 300 billion the next why can't we seperate ones that address those issues at that time. But if you are so ignorant not to worry about the futre then spend away. California with 40 bil. and Illinois in 9 bil. in debt just happened in three months right? No it's been crazy spending by repubs and dems, and we need somebody who is responsible to fix this shtein. Sorry if I expect more from our leaders.

Diomedes

Just to be clear, Obama has been saying "create or save" jobs since the beginning.

Running massive deficits only made sense when we were giving the money back to wealthy. Now it's unforgiveable.

this is pretty much all that matters...the rest of it is nothing anyone undertands even a little bit...they only understand what they want in it...no matter what side youre on now and whether you say this will work or wont work you have no idea...and if in five years this hasnt worked dont say i told you so because again you had no clue in 2009 what would happen...same goes for people who say this will work

its all monopoly money at this point and where you stand on it comes down to your ideoology not whether you think its gonna help america...if you lean left youre going to be relatively happy with this bill as it addresses many important areas that we agree with...still doesnt mean we have even one iota of a clue as to whether it will work...but at least the stff getting money is a refreshing change from the last admin

if you lean right this is a pork filled bill that doesnt have nearly enough tax cuts and money for the wealthy...its almost infathomable that a zealout could really complain about this package after bush and paulson gave billions to the banks just a few months ago and the money is gone...literally no one knows where it is....yet you jerk offs are gonna complain about making govt buildings green...8 years of tax cuts for the rich and free money to wall street an economic black hole in iraq and youre gonna complain about a few line items in this package...its laughable...so basically shut the farg up for the next 8 years and see what barry can do or kill yourselves...no one really cares

i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

I'm saying that there is a big difference between "nothing" and an $800 billion widespread government expansion package.

So you think what should have been done instead?

I was completely against the bailout of the banks, and you can add the dems who supported that bailout as they were the majority. Also the dems voted for the war, they all supported it except the new president. The blindness you have in throwing out blame is hilarious. A few lines? I've said over and over the delayed spending of over 500bill. of this bill that is uncalled for. The money that will be spent right away should be in this bill, then as needed they could always add another bill and spend later. Why have all of it available if we might not need it. Who knows if the econonmy will turn around or the housing market will start to rise sooner then later. Last month spending was up 1% when it was supposed to be down the same.

It is you who are being short-sighted.

So, you are a department manger who is going to get an influx of cash either directly or indirectly from this bill.  If you know that you are only going to have this extra money this year, what are you going to spend it on?  Does it make sense to put on full time staff if you know you have to lay them off next year?  You do realize that it costs companies money to fire people, right?

On the other hand, if you know you have guaranteed funding for the next 3 years you can start thinking about long range staffing plans with hopes of the economy picking up after that.

Personally, I think all this bailout/stimulus talk feels too much like over manipulation like you see in medicine - you take this drug compensate for that drug and add this drug to mitigate the side-effects of that one...I'm not an economist, but it just doesn't feel like it is productive.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.
