Reid un-benches McNabb

Rather than bouncing between three or four other threads.

I don't know what the consensus is in the press and with the talking heads on teevee.  I've read today's Inky articles.  Some seem to support Reid--or they at least avoid criticizing him--such as Bob Ford and Ashley Fox.  Phil Sheriden on the other hand gets closer to the mark and thinks Reid should be ashamed of himself

Mike Preston from the Baltimore Sun thinks this might be the end of Reid (little does he know Lurie, obviously):

QuoteThe only thing injured on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback  Donovan McNabb yesterday was his pride, and his benching might eventually cost coach Andy Reid his job.

Quarterbacks and head coaches are often tied together when it comes to job security, and when one goes, the other often shortly follows. Just ask former Ravens coach Brian Billick and Kyle Boller.

Reid benched his star quarterback after a miserable first half in which McNabb completed just eightof18passes for 59 yards and had two interceptions and a quarterback rating of 13.2.

It was a bad move by Reid.
The Eagles were down by only 10-7 at the half, and McNabb has rallied his team in similar situations many times throughout his 10-year career. Also, hasn't McNabb been to the Pro Bowl five times?

Maybe McNabb has played poorly in the past couple of games, and Reid was definitely looking for a spark. But he replaced McNabb with second-year player Kevin Kolb.

Kevin Kolb?

He turned this kid loose against one of the best defenses in the NFL, one that was embarrassed a week ago against the Giants.

The kid had no chance.

"It turned our antennas up," Ravens safety Ed Reed saidof McNabb's benching.

Ravens cornerback Samari Rolle said: "Kevin Kolb. I'm not trying to be nasty or anything, but I don't even know who he is."

Kolb completed 10 of 23 passes for 73 yards and two interceptions. He finished with a quarterback rating of 15.3 and might have finished off McNabb's and Reid's careers in Philadelphia.

Kolb is useless and another in a long line of wasted draft picks. Watching plyers like Matt Ryan and Joe farging Flacco take the reins and perform in simplistic offenses makes me so angry at Reid and the rest of this shteinhoused organization. A second rate inexperienced QB in an overly complex offense has no chance of thriving. But Andy knows best so we have Kolb throwing passes on 2nd and goal from the 18 inch line.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

I thought he looked pretty damn strong in that long sleeve tee with the arms cut off at the elbow.

THAT is what an NFL QB is supposed to look like.

I'm not going to say that I am in Kolb's camp, or even that I think he has the tools to get it done in the league (I don't), but there is no way we can evaluate shtein about the guy. Just now on WIP, Angelo brought up a great point talking about how when the kid comes in against one of the better defenses in the league, Reid didn't change a single thing. Didn't dumb it down, or give the kid much of a chance to succeed. Think about it, even if Kolb has the tools be a great QB, Reid is so desperate right now, that he'd hedge all of his bets on the guy, and could ruin him. Regardless of whether Kolb had or has the potential to be a solid backup, or a decent starting QB, Reid stands a pretty good chance of seriously impairing his development.

They keep hammering on the second and inches, which makes me irate every time I think about it.

This right here is why it's so hard to be a fan of this team.  I prefer my football a little old school with a strong d, good running game, and a QB that manages the game.  We've known for years that his offense is ridiculously over complicated and that any QB or even WR will take years to learn it.  Well guess what Andy, you don't have years in the NFL.  With a strong D and running game, you will always be competitive if your QB gets hurt or has a bad series of games.

Thats not to say you can throw Bobby Hoying out there and be successful, but there has to be a happy medium.  Any team in the NFL that cannot punch the rock into the endzone on the 18 inch line by running the ball is a bad football team...period.  Thats what we have in Philly right now...a bad team.

Its time to clean house of the coaching staff and keep McNabb.  I want to see what another coach can do for him before throwing him away.  If the new coach comes in and says he's done, then I say rebuild.  You always should get a second opinion before a move of such magnitude.  There are many QB's that have played well into their late 30's and McNabb is turning 32 in a week or so...he probably has three good years left.

All you need to know about Kevin Kolb:

Weak arm + Andy calling 50 passes = Disaster

That could've been the Lions (or hell... the Bengals) and Kolb wouldn't have looked any better.

I have to admit that I'm still a bit stunned.  I can't believe Reid.  Obviously, despite wanting him kicked out and railing against his play-calling, talent evaluation, etc. etc, I have been underestimating how awful he really is, as a coach and as a man.

It's hard to get my head around what happened.  How could he possibly have done that?  It's not just that it's football stoopid, it's something more.  There's a pathology to it that I can't explain just yet, but it's some farged up shtein.

For ten years Reid has simultaneously crippled McNabb--by shoehorning him into a system for which his talents are antithetical, by starving him of talented skill players, etc., etc.-- and enabled him--by deflecting all criticism of him and ignoring his obvious weaknesses--only to betray him and their twisted relationship in this bizzare manner.

I couldn't have scripted this, didn't see it coming in the least, certainly not this way.

How can people not see that Reid is the problem with this team?
