I'd also like to add that temporary worker programs should be continued, even extended.  There are plenty of people, from Ireland to Barbados, who don't want to stay here, but do want to work for the summer or the harvest season.  They are vital to companies that need seasonal work and don't pose half the illegal immigration threat that the conservatives like to cry about.

It never ceases to amaze me that people can hold a serious discussion about immigration in the absence of any menion of the neo-liberal trade policies that causes mass migration all over the developing world.  People don't leave home and all they know because they think it will be some grand adventure in which they will live demonized, ostracized, and in fear of deportation, they do so because they have no other options available to them that will facilitate the feeding of themselves and their families. 

So-called Free-Trade is at the heart of all our immigration issues. 

From Nafta to India our subsidized big agra infiltration of local economies all around the world have driven subsistance farmers out of their local narkets and off their land respectively. This makes mass migration not probable but inescapable.

Move tgo Fair-trade and nuch of our illegal immigration so called problems will all but disappear.

Closer to what?  Obama has a strong lead in states worth 264 EV, with another 47 greater than MOE.  McCain has 129/13.  The averages have McCain gaining about a  point a week...with 3 days left.  FiveThirtyEight.com has McCain's odds of winning at 2.8%

At this point, it isn't if Obama will win, but by how much.

I think it would be wise to improve border security for several reasons, illegal immigration among them.  And a wall is about the dumbest idea I've ever heard.  Improved security, like improved intelligence services, means more highly trained and well compensated human agents on the ground.   I also think a path to citizenship, not at all unlike what McCain once proposed before he cowed to the racist ignorant base of his party, should be laid out.  It shouldn't be easy as pie necessarily, but it must be attainable.  I'd also like to see an intelligent president and his staff make a more nuanced effort to work with other countries to get these things done.  Cooperation and negotiation rather than dictation of terms would be a nice start.

Oh you never let up, if someone is against letting illegal's get off for nothing they are racist. The plan McCain fronted was a joke with as much oversight as the current bailout plan that is just as big of a joke now that we see the banks giving out bonuses with our cash. Our Govenrment sucks plain and simple both sides of the aisle.

And call it over, this race is done. When Obama wins everyone can yell how smart America is now, but watch your cash, the tax increase has gone from poeple making over 250K down to 200k down to 150k over the last two weeks.

no actually McCain did cater to the ignorant racist base of the Republican party. check out his rallies. this is not the same McCain from 2000. that McCain could actually be called a maverick. from ppl yelling the N word, to introducing Obama purposely with his middle name, to calling hims socialist, communist, Marxist, elitist, Arab, and Muslim...its to draw out the ignorant racist crowd out of fear.

and no the tax increase has not changed. if you make 250+ you will see a increase. if you make between 200k to 250k you will see no change. if you make less than 250k you will see a cut.

when did itchange? the 150k number you are citing is from a Biden interview where he was using someone who makes a 150k as a example. not as a level.

please, the only reason Obama is so far out in front, is because he's black, if he wasn't McCain would be ahead. Hillary ( who I guess would be the first black first lady) also would have been facing McCain if Obama wasn't black so forget that.
