QuoteBarney Frank is already calling for a 25 percent cut in the military.

Barney Frank isn't Obama. But, I think that would be awesome if Obama were to cut the pentagon's budget by 25 percent...

Defense cuts in peace time are necessary, but whether you like it or not, it's not peace time.

The defense budget is way way too large.  You want to find government waste, look no further than the military.  At a 25% reduction the U.S. would still have the best funded most powerful military in the world by a vast margin.  We don't need hundreds of foreign bases, for example.

The only explanation for a military the size of ours is Empire, which is an awful thing.

Palin's 'going rogue,' McCain aide says

If McCain loses look for Palin to try to position herself for a run next election season and throw him under the bus.

Any chance she can beat out Jeb Bush?

I highly doubt it will be 25%, but the defense budget is going to have to be streamlined.  In the current economy, there really can't be anything immune to a long, hard look.  I wouldn't doubt an Obama budget that calls for a freeze in spending, or perhaps even up to a 10% cut.

Belts are having to be tightened across the nation.  It's not beyond comprehension to believe that the defense budget will also have to be tightened. The money is just not there right now.

So she won't get the nomination either?

I'd bet anything that Palin shaves...

I haven't really looked, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Repubs for for a woman or a minority (at one point I thought JC Watts, former congressman from Oklahoma, may be a future VP or Pres candidate, but he left Congress a few years ago).  I just can't believe they would guarantee a 2nd Obama administration by running Palin.

Y'all talk like Obama has already won the election.

To me, the only scenario in which Palin runs in 2012 is if Obama wins.  I was going on that premise.

Unless, of course, McCain wins and dies.  Then she runs as the incumbent, and the third Bush wouldn't be a factor.
