Taking someone's Maple Story login isn't very different from taking someone's online bank info. The characters and items in those types of games have monetary value in the real world.

I can go sell my World of Warcraft account for two grand. At least I could a couple months ago, but that number has surely dropped with the next expansion coming out in a couple weeks. I have no idea what some crazy Asian dude's Maple Story account would be worth, but I'd estimate it somewhere in the lower gazillions (US$).

Really? They are worth money? How is that possible?

Of course they're worth money. It takes a lot of time to develop a character.  Plenty of people will pay for not having to sink the time into getting a level 60 dark elf mage.
