McNabb practices, Westbrook sits out

QuoteDonovan McNabb returned to practice Friday, but the Eagles could be without Brian Westbrook for Sunday's game at the Chicago Bears.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said McNabb was able to make all the necessary throws in practice.

The Eagles will likely miss Pro Bowl guard Shawn Andrews and tight end L.J. Smith, who are both listed as questionable.

However, the big question mark remains the health of Westbrook, Philadelphia's best playmaker.

Westbrook injured an ankle while hurdling a teammate in the Pittsburgh game. He sat out practice all week, but has said he plans on being ready to play.

"We'll see how he does here, over the next couple days," Reid said. "I mentioned before that it's going to go right to the wire there."

Brown returned to the lineup last week but played sparingly. Reid said he expects him to get more opportunities this week.

Curtis has returned to practice with the team but is listed as doubtful

Rome

It would be funny if Curtis made it back before Brown.  And by funny, I mean pathetic.

General_Failure

LJ being out seems more like a positive than a negative.

The man. The myth. The legend.

QB Eagles

The Associated Press is wrong. Andrews and Smith are doubtful, not questionable.

Here's the whole list:

Victor Abiamiri - Out (wrist)
Shawn Andrews - Doubtful (back)
L.J. Smith - Doubtful (back)
Kevin Curtis - Doubtful (hernia)
Donovan McNabb - Questionable (chest)
Brian Westbrook - Questionable (ankle)
Tony Hunt - probable (concussion)
Dan Klecko - probable (hand)
Jamaal Jackson - probable (quadricep)

Bonerific bits and pieces:

The Eagles have allowed just 45.7 rushing yards per game and 2.4 yards per carry the first three weeks. Thirty-nine of the 58 rushing attempts against them thus far have resulted in three or fewer yards, including 15 that went for zero or minus yards.

Wide receiver Kevin Curtis practiced for the first time Wednesday

Brian Dawkins is a prideful man. After spending the week listening to people suggest he was washed up, the soon-to-be 35-year-old free safety went out Sunday and turned in a stellar performance in the Eagles' 15-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He notched six tackles, including two for losses, and had a big, big fourth-quarter sack in which he literally flew over a blocker and hit quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He knocked the ball out of Roethlisberger's hands, then recovered the ball. "I don't know what a 34-year-old is supposed to feel like or play like," Dawkins said. "I just know I had to get to Ben. He was scrambling, and I had to make the play. As I got off the (initial) block, the back tried to block me. I pushed him back, saw Ben trying to step up. I knew I had to get to him. The next thing I knew, I was in the air." Of the criticism he received after a poor performance in the Eagles' loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Dawkins said, "I told you guys, I understand how it works. You get a certain age, every play that I'm not making this year from here on out, it's going to be the same way - `he's getting old.' I can't worry about that."

Punter Sav Rocca is off to a Pro Bowl-caliber start. He went into Sunday's game against the Steelers ranked second in the NFC in punting with a 48.7 yard average. Against the Steelers, he put three of his five punts inside the 10-yard line and also nailed a clutch 64-yarder in the fourth quarter to get the Eagles out of a hole.

10.1 - That's Donovan McNabb's average yards per attempt in the first half of the first three games.

And the not-so-bonerific:

In the second half, Donovan has averaged just 4.9.

The BIGSTUD

Please don't bring Curtis back too soon Andy, please. The last thing we need is him to hurt it again and be out for the season. Keep him out until after the damn bye.

I saw McNabb throw it his way on a sideline go pattern.  As expected, the CB was step-for-step and Brown could not pull away.

That's the play I actually remember seeing Brown in.  Another time I saw him cheesin' behind Andy.  He has a brohawk now.
