as for the bundling in this bill thats just how congress works...sounds like your complaint is more with them than with this particular bill

Yes, that's fair to say.  I'm still extremely confused how anyone can not have significant complaints with the way the Congress goes about its business.

That said (and brace yourself for this), it's probably one of the best investments of government to help people have an acceptable place to live.  I just wish a program like that wasn't wrapped up in the same bill as all the bailout money.

My thoughts exactly. It's great that they included this in the bill and it's great that this part of the bill will be coming out of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's pockets, but it doesn't erase the fact that the massive majority of the money in this money is just a government handout.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

I like that there are consequences, but Fannie/Freddie are not the predatory lenders - they just buy mortgages from them.  The penalty is not going deep enough.  I guess you could argue that Fannie/Freddie will be more careful about who they buy mortgages from, pushing the risk down...we'll see.

I like this bill like I like the FISA bill - it is great except for this one small detail.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

You see, nobody panics when things go according to plan, even if the plan is horrifying.  The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules.  See, I'm not a monster; I'm just ahead of the curve.

1% lead on a feeble old man

PRINCETON, NJ -- For the first time in more than two weeks, Gallup Poll Daily tracking finds support for Barack Obama falling outside the 46% to 48% zone that had given him a consistent lead over John McCain since late June.

I'll still bet straight up on Obama winning the election if anyone wants in.

Solid.

Obama plans to fund more stimulus with oil company profits

Again, this is a total falsehood.  The oil companies have no competition and will just raise prices to make up the difference.  So, oil companies and end users are actually unaffected by it.  Government wins, and gas station owners (who are already hurting) lose big.

Whatever, though.  I'll take the check.  They'll probably phase out at certain income levels instead of giving it to everyone.

I actually had a nightmare that McCain won the election.

True story.

From a piece in the WSJ...

QuoteBy AMY CHOZICK

Speaking to donors at a San Diego fund-raiser last month, Barack Obama reassured the crowd that he wouldn't give in to Republican tactics to throw his candidacy off track.

"Listen, I'm skinny but I'm tough," Sen. Obama said.

But in a nation in which 66% of the voting-age population is overweight and 32% is obese, could Sen. Obama's skinniness be a liability? Despite his visits to waffle houses, ice-cream parlors and greasy-spoon diners around the country, his slim physique just might have some Americans wondering whether he is truly like them.

The candidate has been criticized by opponents for appearing elitist or out of touch with average Americans. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll conducted in July shows Sen. Obama still lags behind Republican John McCain among white men and suburban women who say they can't relate to his background or perceived values.

"He's too new ... and he needs to put some meat on his bones," says Diana Koenig, 42, a housewife in Corpus Christi, Texas, who says she voted for Sen. Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary.

"I won't vote for any beanpole guy," another Clinton supporter wrote last week on a Yahoo politics message board.

Are....you....kidding....me?!?!

The stupidity of our country and our media amazes me.

Don't be an elitist, Phreak.

Look who is quoting single polls and getting all excited...

Well, over the same period there was one poll that also had a 1% margin, but two others had a 7% margin.  Don't get your undies in a twist.
