the numbers assume that every car on the road currently rides on uninflated tires...also youre assuming they are all equally uninflated...how do you that some cars arent 1% uninflated and other 10% uninflated

the idea that you should inflate your tires is a fine one but its a footnote and not something that should be compared to offshore drilling as a campaign issue....the way he worded it was horrible and poltically stupid
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

Yes, Obama's problem is that he generally overestimates the intelligence of the people listening to him.

The point was not that he was putting forward tire inflation as a platform for energy independence.  The point was that offshore drilling would have such an insignificant effect that simple conservation measures would be as or more effective.

It is so sad that the desperate need for sensationalist sound bites has completely overshadowed any legitimate debate about the real issues this country is facing.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

Penn and Teller have people sign a Petition

Yeah, saw that.  They rule.

BTW, Drudge has the names of the debate moderators:

John McCain, April 2007

Quote"Energy efficiency by using improved technology and practicing sensible habits in our homes, businesses and automobiles is a big part of the answer, and is something we can achieve right now. And new advances will make conservation an ever more important part of the solution. Improved light bulbs can use much less energy; smart grid technology can help homeowners and businesses lower their energy use, and breakthroughs in high tech materials can greatly improve fuel efficiency in the transportation sector. We need to dispel the image of conservation that entails shivering in cold rooms, reading by candlelight, and lower productivity. Americans have it in their power today to contribute to our national security, prosperity and a cleaner environment."

Yeah, but what about offshore drilling?

Obama checks his tires, McCain changes his lightbulbs.  The difference is media hysteria.

In all fairness, I think there's a lot more hysteria on this thread than in the mainstream media about the drilling/tire fun.  97.2% of Americans don't give a shtein about any of this drivel.

I haven't paid attention to anything since I voted months ago.

It's probably more than that. I mean, how many people can there possibly be working in gossip media and/or posting on message boards?

It can't possibly be more than 2.5%.
