might not be the fan Sea--it could be the fuse connection behind your panel on the wall (red and black wires). They could very well just replace it and cost you 75 bucks

the thing is i can hear electricity going to the fan(a low hum), or at least to the unit, but there isnt any movement.

Sounds like the johnson rod is shot.

Sea, how long since your last service check?

If its over 6 yrs--you could very well have a bad capacitor or contactor

you mentioned a humming--may be a clicking noise of some sort like its trying to cycle the unit but the blower is not turning on?

if thats the case, you may have a bad contactor in the unit. Lastly, you could have a frozen coil in the system from a loss of freon that he can simply add to your unit. Either way, my bet its one of those 3--and hope its the capacitor or freon for cost purposes

its only 3 years old, new unit in a new house.  Never had it serviced before as we never had a problem before.

According to the website for the A/C unit, i'm supposed to have a 5 year warranty for everything, whether they honor that is another story, im just waiting for them to say, well if you want the warranty to fix it, it will take a week, but if we do it today, it'll be 300.  The sad part is i'd rather get it done than sweat my balls off

thats the plan, once people start getting more than what they are around us.

Didn't you spend a ton of time and money turning your whole basement into a massive Eagles home theater/etc?

My father in law actually finished the basement along with my bro in law as a christmas gift.  We paid for supplies, but if it gets me an extra 5-10k i'm happy.  Plus the tv/stereo is coming to the new place when that time comes.

Thanks Reese

I'm just saying - that type of personalization/customization isn't routinely done if you don't plan on hanging around for a long time.

It's our first house, but its a townhouse, and we're ready to upgrade.  The plan was always 3-5 years and we'd be out.  We're at the 3.5 mark, and with the market being where it is, we can easily upgrade, and take everything we learned from finishing this one, and make it better next time around.  The places around us are now getting back to mid 2007 #'s so its a turn in the right direction as far as equity goes.

Just wait until after the acquisition is complete to get your new mortgage with BAC/CFC.

Guy just left, ends up it was a bad capacitor, blew out in the storm we had last night and the subsequent power surges.  Only ended up being $131, 49 for the labor/diagnosis/trip over here, and the rest for the capacitor.  He said he's replaced 6 this morning because of the storms we had last night, and had one customer that had their a/c unit blown up by lightning last night.
