See, I'd counter that only watchable movies are well-made.  Movies that aren't watchable were in some way not well-made.  Some aspects of them might be done well, but they obviously fell down somewhere.

I'd say that part of your problem is that you really like to talk in extremes-- generally things are the best or the worst with you, which creates problems when something is neither.

art is of course subjective but at the same time there are universal agreements on the quality of many movies

but i disagree with you in that quality and watchability imo are not mutually exclusive

Man, I must really want to avoid work to be debating this nonsense.

Obviously, however you can rate movies any way you want.  But looking at them in the way you described seems like a convenient way to movie-snob-it-up by talking about the unversally-accepted "quality" of a movie you don't much like.

the problem with sports movies is that outside of golf and to a certain extent hockey its impossible to recreate the games to not make them look laughably unrealistic...also they are always unbelievably melodramatic..
Major League was awesome and still is, but it kind of goes along with what you said here. The Sandlot, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, etc...baseball movies are the best.

Glory Road was awesome, obviously a true story.

BASEketball is good, not a real sports movie since its a comedy, but it makes fun of "real" sports.

glory road was awful and should have been on the lifetime movie network

I loved Friday Night Light and (shame) also really liked Varsity Blues, though clearly that was not a good movie.

Any Given Sunday should be lit on fire.

I'll never really consider Field of Dreams as an actual baseball movie.  Obviously baseball makes up a large portion of the flick but there's very little actual baseball being played in it.

And the reason why sports movies are kind of hard to pull of in terms of realism is because the movie can only focus on maybe a half dozen players.  In Major League, the only characters you got to know where Taylor, Dorn, Hayes, Cerrano, Harris and Vaughn..... the catcher, the 3rd baseman, 2 outfielders, 1 starting pitcher and the closer.

Just watched Half Nelson. Moral of the story, get your own shtein together before you try to change other people or the world.
