I can't believe these twits are voting on a bongrats to a football team. Maybe the house and Senate should worry about giving us that gas plan Nancy promised the country when elected to bring down the cost of gas.

QuoteHouse Republican leaders on Tuesday challenged Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to release a plan to lower gas prices that they say Democrats touted when they were in the minority...the price of gasoline has spiked $1.18 since Democrats took over in January and stands at $3.51 this was dated 4/23/08.

"Once a nightmare scenario, $4 gasoline is now a very real possibility of becoming a summer staple,"..."In some cities, including San Francisco and Chicago, it is already a startling reality."

Pelosi's office did not respond immediately for comment.

Congress can't do shtein about the price of gas..at least not directly.  If they took steps to strengthen the dollar, rather than the opposite--Iraq war, stimulus package, require higher gas mileage from automakers, etc.--that would help.

Maybe people could just drive less.
I see people wating in drive-through lines for Starbucks for like 45 minutes, so they don't have to walk into a store. (In LA, where the weather is always nice).
There's a reason you have no energy, and it's because you are a fat piece of sht.

Relying on people to change their lazy idiotic ways is even more idiotic than relying on congress to implement policies that could improve our lives. In fact, the congress options is potentially achievable. People not being idiots? I don't think so.

Price at one gas station today was #3.999, so the four dollar gas is already a reality in Southwest Florida as well.

I'd guess it could easily reach $5 by July 4th at current trends.

Rome

I swear to God, if I were the President the first thing I would do is implement an immediate dollar tax to every gallon of gas sold in this country.  I would also demand a 25% increase in fuel efficiency standards to go into effect within 5 years.

You want people to change their habits?  Fine.  Force them to change.

Good luck getting either through Congress - and good luck getting re-elected.

There are two different Congresses?

And Rome will be doing so many hookers and drugs if he gets elected, he wouldn't have to worry about re-election.

Changing habits will be tough.  I'm not sure what the breaking point is on gas prices, but I have to think we're getting close.

The real answer isn't changing habits, because that will be very difficult.  The answer isn't government intervention to force oil companies to lower prices or increase demand, as the lobbyists and politicians in the pockets of big oil won't allow that to happen.  And the answer isn't trying to convince our "friends" the Saudis to increase production and sell it to us cheaper.

The real answer is to get off our dependence on foreign oil.  Hydro, nuclear, solar, and wind can all produce enough energy to power this country without a drop of oil being used.  How do we get there?  That's where the government comes in - incentives through tax relief, consortiums, and even grants are necessary to get the big boys to develop these sources so wind turbines aren't an oddity when driving through the Midwest, creating solar panels as big as towns, and building new and efficient nuclear power plants.  Yes, even in our backyards.  Only through alternative energy sources can we get things back in order.  The trouble is, this is a long term answer with a long term solution, and we need to change the thought process on how projects of this size and scope are funded, completed, and brought to the public.

Different Congresses?  The "either" in my sentence referred to either of Rome's initiations - the gas tax or the fuel economy requirement.

I would argue that oil will inevitably be replaced by something that we will abuse to our peril. Habits have to change, and people have to be forced to change them. I have no idea how you force people to change their behavior. but it has to happen or we're farged.
