CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—The Carolina Panthers added depth on their defensive line by agreeing to a one-year deal with free agent Darwin Walker.

Walker's agent, Al Irby, confirmed the deal Monday. The Chicago Bears let Walker go in February.

Walker played in 11 games with seven starts in an injury-plagued season with Chicago in 2007. He finished with 17 tackles and one sack. Before that, Walker was a five-year starter in Philadelphia.

The Panthers have little depth at defensive tackle after trading Kris Jenkins in the offseason. Sixth-round pick Nick Hayden of Louisville was the only defensive linemen the Panthers took in last weekend's draft.

Rhodes cut

The Oakland Raiders released running back Dominic Rhodes on Monday, two days after using their top draft pick to take big-play back Darren McFadden. Oakland had a glut at running back after the draft and began addressing it almost immediately by announcing the team cut ties with Rhodes. The Raiders still have two backs with 1,000-yard seasons on their roster in Justin Fargas and LaMont Jordan

Tampa Bay?  Seattle?  Where might he go?  It'd be funny to see him in Arizona....

Not with Delhomme being the huge question mark he is.  He's the only QB worth a damn on that roster and he's coming off of Tommy John surgery.  I've heard it's not as bad for a QB as it is for a pitcher, but it's still a serious surgery.  If he's not right, that team won't go too far.

Actually, they were talking about that on either ESPN or NFLN this weekend.  Apparently, there are very few QB's that have actually had Tommy John surgery.  The couple that did weren't that great to begin with and then were even worse afterwards.

So, he might come back, but there's no precedent for it.

They estimate an 85-90% chance of recovery, with a 6 to 12 month rehab time.

Sounds about the same as recovery from a knee injury.
