buddy left in 1990 munson....i know you are under drinking age...meaning you were two at best when he left...and maybe 10 when rhodes left...you didnt know football existed when buddy was around and probably liked it but didnt follow it in depth for ray...you got into this stuff in the last five years is my guess

his bio says 20, so he was born in 87 or 88, which means he wasn't in kindergarten yet when Buddy was fired in early 1991 and wasn't out of elementary school when Rhodes was fired, so I don't think the Kotite years were fresh on the mind either...

The Eagles came up short in their pursuit of Randy Moss and watched as Javon Walker signed Wednesday with Oakland.

Now, the search for a wide receiver will likely turn to the name most frequently mentioned as their primary target -- Arizona Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald, who remains in contract negotiations with the club that drafted him.

Lions wideout Roy Williams, mercurial Bengals receiver Chad Johnson and Rams veteran Torry Holt are logical choices for the Eagles to pursue if they can't land Fitzgerald.

And based on reports coming out of Arizona, a new deal between the Cardinals and Fitzgerald is imminent.

Earlier this week, Fitzgerald told the East Valley (Ariz.) Tribune that progress has been made toward an extension and restructuring of his contract, which pays him $14.6 million in 2008 and $17.4 million in 2009, the final year of his contract.

Fitzgerald is even speaking like a Cardinal for the long term.

"In January, next year, when we're deep in the playoffs, this thing won't be an issue," he told the newspaper.

The sooner the deal is completed, the quicker the Eagles can move on to other pursuits.

One agent who does not represent Williams told The News Journal that Williams "is definitely on the [trading] block."

Williams, entering his fifth season, made the Pro Bowl in 2006 and had 838 yards and five touchdowns in a 14-game 2007 season. In 2006, he finished with 1,310 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

But Lions coach Rod Marinelli told reporters at the NFL scouting combine last month that he didn't see Williams going anywhere.

"I'm very confident he's here," Marinelli said, according to MLive.com. "Very confident."

The Bengals have echoed similar sentiments about Johnson, who went public this off-season with his gripes about the franchise. Despite Johnson's eccentric behavior and harsh comments about the team, the Bengals have said that Johnson isn't being shopped around.

"No one within the Bengals organization has ever spoken of or ever uttered anything about trading Chad Johnson. Nor will he be traded," coach Marvin Lewis told the Cincinnati Enquirer in February.

As for Holt, the seven-time Pro Bowler has flown under the trade radar, but the Rams might find their rebuilding effort easier if they trade the 31-year-old star receiver.

Holt, signed for two more years, is slated to make $5.65 in base salary in 2008 and $6.65 next season, excluding bonuses. His agent, Greg Williams, said he called the Rams at the end of the season to discuss their plans for Holt but hadn't heard back.

"I didn't know if they would be rebuilding or looking to trade [Holt] or if he'd be there to play out his contract," Williams said. "I think if they were going to do something, they would let us know. From my understanding, they have every intention of bringing him back
."

Torry Holt? :drool

I'd take Fitz or Williams cause they're younger and have a lot more years left but Jesus. If Holt becomes a real possibility....

I somehow feel like the Eagles are going to end up with Holt.  Probably because he's the one I'd be least interested in getting of the bunch mentioned, as he's by far the oldest.

D.J. Hackett's still available, though!

87 Bigs. I was 3 when Buddy was fired. I still remember. I remember the teams/players morer then I remember Buddy himself though. I definitely remember Kotite..."The water got on the chart, made it hard to see the play...". Starting out, 7-2, or 6-2 or whatever it was and completely collapsing....yeah, i remember all that.

Of course your post is coming from a guy who thought I was 24 when I was 15 :-D

And is someone in Arizona really quoting the Delaware News Journal as a source for the "imminent" deal for Fitz? That makes a lot of sense.

It sucks that he's 31 but he seems like the type of player that could play at a high level for at least another 3 years. He plays a lot like Marvin Harrison...doesn't let himself get hit too much, takes care of his body, etc.

Under no circumstances would I consider Torry Holt a WR that would make the impact that Fitz or WIlliams would make.

I also don't see it happening. I think if they DO get a WR via trade, it will be one that is not in the plus 30 age group.

So Munson, in his 20's, has an excuse for being a know it all.  IGY, not so much.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

As a FA I would definitely be excited about Holt, but the Eagles giving up something to get him doesn't do much for me.

Harrison hit the wall.  If Holt hits it around the same time, it will be very, very soon.

Both had a very large element of top-flight speed in their game.  Neither are particularly big-bodied guys.  So, once the speed goes and injuries start to plague, your career's basically done.

Oh yeah I'd definitely much rather have Fitz or Roy, but the giants just proved that really ANY team can win the SB, and I'd love to see them make a run at it this year and the next. Holt could definitely help them do that.

But yes, I'd very much prefer Fitz or Williams.

And Harrison didn't really hit the wall hard until this past year, when he was...34? If Holt's the same way he's got 3 more years left in him.

again the fact that you think the only philly fans that care about who they root for are on wip is amazing to me...get off the wip is the devil bandwagon that you hear people on the net talk about...theres like seven million people in the metro area and a miniscule amount of them listen to wip...

Wait...I thought WIP was the pulse of the city?

You've said that to me many many times.

Yeah that is pretty much how I feel.  What do they give up for him is the big question.  I think a guy like this has any where from 2-4 good seasons left.  That being said it wouldn't really be like the Eagles to bring in a guy of his age and give up much for him.
