he has 60 career touchdowns are you kidding me??

this 15 years to get in the hof is bullshtein...the limit should be three years...you dont get in before then youre out...the hof should be the best of the best not some players who were never even the best wr on their team much less one of the best in the league

He's sixth all-time in receptions, IGY.  And don't forget they also had Ricky Sanders and Gary Clark plus most of the touchdowns they got were on rushes from Riggins.

ice grillin you

he was never the best wr on his own team and you want him in the hof?

its a joke

if he was good enough to make the hof he wouldnt have taken over a decade to get in...hes a mercy entry and sorry i dont think players like that belong in hall of fames...the only argument to have him in is that the nfl hof ia already a joke with many players being that shouldnt...so if you wanna lower the bar to very good (not the best of the best) players like art monk getting in then so be it....imo hall of fames should be better than that

the fact that the nfl has a minimum four entrants per year get in is a joke...the fact that they have that rule and art monk still couldnt make it until now is an even bigger one

6th in receptions and 11th in yards are Hall of Fame credentials, period.

Compare Monk's career with the last decade of the NHL, and he'll pale in comparison, because the NFL today is much more pass-oriented.

But when he retired, he was #1 in career receptions.  Mostly on a Gibbs team that focused more on the run.

He's got more receptions and TDs than Michael Irvin, last year's HOF entry.  Admittedly, Monk played several more seasons.

I'm gonna play both sides of the fence here, 'I', a fan, thought he did enough to get into the HOF. Others whose votes mattered didn't think so. Folding to public pressure and letting a guy in because enough taterskins fans cried taints Monks entry.

ice grillin you

he has those numbers cause he played 1000 years

he had good numbers for a long time...good doesnt get you in the hof...great (or whatever comes after great) gets you in...and outside of one year art monk was never that

again he played for that many seasons and only had 63 touchdowns

he made three pro bowls in 16 years

he finished in the top 5 in receptions three times in 16 years

he never had double figures in touchdowns even once

he had more than 75 catches three times in 16 years

its not really even an argument and the voters themselves know this...which is why they had to wait over a decade for a year as weak as this one to put him in...and like i said even at that he only made it cause four guys HAVE to make it every year

you defeated your own argument

monk played 50 more games than irivn yet irvin had three less touchdowns and 1000 less yards

in 50 less games!

so either monk was not that good or irvin was insane...i tend to lean towards the former

I personally couldn't care less if he got in.

Fact is, he's in and that's the end of it.

A third possibility was that Irvin had a HOF quarterback in Troy Aikman, whereas Monk had QBs like Joey the Leg, Doug Williams and Mark Rypien throwing to him.

you dont get elected to the hall of fame because your teammates werent great...otherwise lets put in mike quick

Maybe not, but when he puts in HOF-type numbers, it's even more amazing considering who he had throwing to him.

ice grillin you

i think the point is that he didnt put hall of fame numbers up

you have to year in and year out put up numbers that make you one of the best in the league at your position and outside of a year or two art monk never did that...like i said he wasnt even the best wr on his team most years...so somehow with all those awful superbowl winning quaterbacks other guys like gary clark were able to out number monk

6th in receptions and 11th in yards are Hall of Fame credentials, period.

Cris Carter is 2nd in receptions and 6th in yards.
Andre Reed is 5th in receptions and 8th in yards.

Combined they have 15 Pro Bowl selections to Monk's 3. Why was he chosen over them? I think it's basically the result of many years of incessant taterskin fan whining.

I could go on and on. IGY hit all the main points. Monk was not the best eligible wide receiver this year, and there are a number of non-WR players who probably deserve to go in before all three of those guys.

I'm done with this topic. Another borderline case in the HOF. He's definitely not the first.
