This loss today made me happier than when Utley won it for the Phils last week against the Mets.

exactly how i felt today.  i was actually cracking up as the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings began to unravel.

as exciting and as potent this offense is could you imagine this bullpen in the playoffs when the pressure is really on?  i get pains in my stomach and head just thinking about it.

Right. I love the Phillies and all, but I'm sorry. If it is there for the taking and you don't step up and take it then you don't deserve it. The Phillies didn't go out and get it and I'm happy they didn't. This isn't little league. You gotta play 9 innings of baseball. The Phillies only played 7, and got what was coming to them.

and little guy i disagree about ignoring this team since football starts sunday...the eagles will not provide one quarter this year as entertaining as the 8th and 9th innings today

I was pretty entertained reading this thread, knowing already that the Phils imploded... again.  Easy to stay calm and rational when I didn't have to endure the pain of watching the game.

And, for what it's worth, I agree with the igster - Chipper Jones will get serious consideration for the Hall of Fame.  Don't know if he'll make it, but he'll break at least 40-50% of the vote.

Where to begin in this apple-cart-tipping defeat that may resonate well into October, should the Phillies miss the postseason they've been fighting so hard to reach. They led, 8-2, heading into the eighth inning after first mounting a 5-0 lead off Tim Hudson. They allowed seven unanswered runs over the next two innings.
