Stark:

QuoteIf the Red Sox don't bring back Mike Lowell, the Dodgers, Angels, Padres, Astros and Yankees (if they lose A-Rod) would all be major bidders. But Lowell has sent signals to his friends on the Phillies that, in the words of one of them: "He would love to play in Philadelphia." And why not? Lowell is a .353 lifetime hitter in 70 career plate appearances in Citizens Bank Park, with seven homers, six doubles and a .750 slugging percentage. The Phillies could have about $27 million coming off the books this winter, depending on whether Aaron Rowand departs. And a year from now, Pat Burrell's $14 million will also disappear. So the Phillies should have money to spend to address their third-base and bullpen issues.

I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

ice grillin you

i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

Wingspan

Lowell is only 33. Thats not so bad.

Unless there's a young prospect 3B, 2 years of Lowell is better than what has played 3B for the phils since Rolen left.

Lowell turns 34 in February and they'll have Costanzo at Lehigh Valley next year.  I wouldn't go more than 2/$20M on a deal...

Rome

He'd laugh out loud at two years & twenty million especially if the Yankees get involved.

I am curious what other third basemen of his caliber are making these days.

Wright = $1M this year, $5M in 2008, $7.5M in 2009, then between $10M-$15M for the next 4 years after that
Chipper Jones = $12.3M this year, somewhere around $13M-$15M next year
Rolen = $14.5M this year, decreasing slightly over the next 3 years
Beltre = $11M-$12M this year, 2008 and 2009
Glaus = $10.5M this year, $12.5M in 2008
Ramirez = $8M this year, then between $14M-$16M for the next 5 years after that
Cabrera = $7.4M this year, last year of arbitration in 2008 (after which he becomes a FA)
Atkins = rookie contract
Zimmerman = rookie contract

id spend the money on pitching and pitching only. who gives a shtein about 1 of position and 3b. they are winning with nonsense greg dobbs and jayson werth. its farging pitching, pitching, pitching. and not zesty adam eaton pitching, good pitching.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

That is hard to find on the free agent market.

Now that Zambrano re-signed the f/a pitching market is thin - guys like Lohse are what's gonna be available

PhillyPhreak54

And Lohse likely will roll out too...he said the other day, when asked about a long fly in Turner Field, if it was good to not be in CBP at that time. And he said its always good to not be there.

PoopyfaceMcGee

This is how low we've dropped - we're worried about losing KYLE LOHSE.

MDS

well i guess if no pitcher will sign here, then we might as well as sign arod and score 3000 runs a game.
